- Guides Ss to know about the world population exactly.
- Develop such reading micro-skill as scanning for special ideas and skimming for general information.
- Use the information they have read to discuss and do the exercise.
* Lexical items: Words or phrases to related reading.
* Skills: Reading for gist and for specific information.

Procedure: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm-up - Asks Ss to answer some questions: 1.Do you think how many are world population now? 2. What content has the largest population? * Introduce the new lesson: Warm-up - Listen and answer. - Answer freely. - Listen. Before you read - Gives some new words and explains the meaning on the board. Estimate: sù (®¸nh gi¸, íc lîng) Indicate: chØ, cho biÕt Constrain: b¾t Ðp, b¾t buéc Available: cã s½n ®Ó dïng Cite war: nh¾c l¹i chiÕn tranh Epidemic: lan truyÒn nh bÖnh dÞch - Asks Ss to read after the teacher some times. - Calls on some Ss to read aloud the words and phrases - Asks Ss to make sentences with the above words to check their understanding. Before you read - Copy down - Read in chorus and individually. - Read aloud the words - Put sentences with the above words at home. While you read Setting the scene: You are going to read a passage about the population on the world and then do exercises Exercise 1: * Introduce: - Asks Ss to choose the best answer A, B, C or D for each of the questions below. - Guides Ss to make some strategies in text. - Asks Ss to read the questions carefully to understand them. - Read/Plays cassette and ask Ss to listen once time or twice times. - Asks Ss to work individual and discuss the following groups. - Walks around the class to help when necessary. - Asks them to compare their answers with friends - Calls Some Ss to read aloud their answers. - Gives corrected answer. While you read - Listen and prepare doing tasks. Exercise 1: - Choose the best answer A, B, C or D for each of the questions below. - Read the questions carefully. - Work individually. - Listen once or twice times - Work individual and discuss the following groups. - Compare the answers with friends. - Read aloud the answers. - Write the correct answers: 1. D 2. C 3. B 4. A 5. C - Compare T’s the answers. - Practice the sentences in front of the class. After you read - Asks Ss to read the text again in front of the class. - Guides Ss to make some strategies in text. - Asks Ss to translate the text into Vietnamese. - Asks Ss to work in groups. - Walks around the class to help when necessary. - Asks the groups to compare the translation with each other . - Calls Some groups to read aloud their translation. - Remark and give opinions in text. After you read - Read the text again - Translate the text into Vietnamese. - Work in groups - Compare the translation with each other . - Compare T’s translation. Homework - Asks Ss to review reading and do exercise again. - Asks Ss to prepare the new lesson. - Work at home.
