I- OBJECTIVES:

 1. Aim: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to know some kinds of competitions in English lessons so that they more enjoy and love this subject, and get more information , words and structures to talk about the competitions.

 - Develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific ideas and skimming for specific ideas, identifying main ideas, and identifying meaning in context.

 - Use the information they have read to discuss the related topic.

 2. Lexical items: Words/ phrases related to competitions like : representative, English Competition, stimulate, rule,.contest, score, judges, award, reciting,

 3. Structures: .

 - Greeting and checking the sts attendance

2- Checking the old lesson:

 * Change the sentences into reported speech

I- objectives:
	1. Aim: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to know some kinds of competitions in English lessons so that they more enjoy and love this subject, and get more information , words and structures to talk about the competitions.
 - Develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific ideas and skimming for specific ideas, identifying main ideas, and identifying meaning in context.

1.The representatives of three classes of the school took part in the annual final English Competition last Saturday
2. Its aim was to stimulate the spirit of learning English among students.
3. The student’s Parents Society sponsored the competition.
4. They had tocomplete five activities in all. On completion of each activity, they had to answer the questions in the worksheets within two minutes
5. They had to observe and score the stusents’ performance. The maximum score for each activity was 15. the end of the competition they would announce the total score of each group. The group that got the highest core would be the winner.
6. The winner would be awarded a set of CDs for studying English and an Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary

A.Warm up: (6mn)
- T: gets sts to work in pairs to match the 4 given competitions with the correct pictures on page 66.
Walks around the class and provide help when they need.
Then call on some sts to tell their answers in front of the class.
Check the answers with the whole class.
Asks sts to tell which of these competitions they like most and why, 
Gets sts to tell the name of some other competitions that they know or have ever participated in and elicit their comments on the events.
 B. Before you read:(6mn) 
Introduce the topic of the lesson and gets sts to work in pairs and answer the questions on page 67.
Have sts work in pairs then call on some pairs present in front of the class.
Elicit comments from the class and ask sts to guess what they are going to read about.
Work in pairs to match the 4 given competitions with the correct pictures on page 66.
a. Quiz: "road to Mount Olympia".
b. London Marathon.
c. SaoMai Television Singing Contest.
d. Olympic Games.
Tell the name of some other competitions that know or have ever participated in .
Work in pairs to ask and answer the questions on page 67.
Work in pairs then some pairs stand up and work in front of the class.
Listen and lead to new lesson.

Listen to teacher carefully and practise reading new words in chorus , in groups , in pairs and individually.
Practise reading new words in chorus then in pairs

C. While you read: (20mn)

Ask sts read through the exercise and do it in groups

Ask sts to go back to the passage and located the key words 
in the passage. 
Have sts read around the key words carefully to find the
answers .
Get sts to check their answers with a peer.
Call on some sts to write their answers on the board and 
ask them to explain their choices.
D. After you read: (10 mn)
Ask sts to work in groups to discuss the poem and translate it into Vietnamese .
Walks around to help sts when necessary.
When all have finished, call on some presentative in each group to present to share ideas.
Give feedback.
Sts listen to T. Then read the text in silience again and give the answers of the task

5. They had to observe and score the sts' performance. A maximum score for each activity was 15. at the end of the competition they would announce the total score of each group. The group that got the highest scores will be the winner.

Read par.3 and work in groups to complete the sentences.
