- Develop such reading micro-skill as scanning for special ideas

Have you ever taken part in the competitions? 2. What were they? 3. Where did they organize? - Calls on some Ss to answer. - Gives correct answers. + Today, we are going to read a paragraph talk about a school’s competition. - Listen and answer. - Answer freely. - Listen. 2. Before you read: (7 minutes) * Discussing the picture and saying. - Asks Ss to look at the picture and asks them to answer some questions. 1.What can you see in the picture? 2. What are they competing? 3. Do you like taking part in competition like these? Why/Why not? 4. Do you hope to win a competition? If so which competition do you like to win? - Asks Ss to answer the questions. - Walks around the class to help when necessary. - Asks Ss to compare answers with friends. - Calls some Ss to read their answers in front of the class. - Corrected answers. Pre-teaching - Gives some new words and explains the meaning on the board. Task 1: (10 minutes) * Introduce: Match the words or phrases on the left with the definition on the right. - Asks Ss to read the text carefully. - Plays cassette and ask Ss to listen once time or twice times. - Asks Ss to read the words or phrases on the left with the definition on the right carefully to understand them then match. - Walks around the class to help when necessary. - Asks them to compare their answers with friends - Calls Some Ss to read aloud their answers. - Gives corrected answer. 1. d, 2. f, 3. e, 4. c, 5. b, 6. a While you read. - Listen and prepare doing tasks. Group 1: Answer the question 1 to 2. Group 2: Answer the question 3 ,4. Group 3: Answer the question 5,6. Group 4: Answer the question 1,2. Group 5: Answer the question 3,4. Group 6: Answer the question 5,6. - Asks Ss to read carefully questions to understand them. - Asks Ss to read scan the text again and underline the key words to decide what information they need to find in the text to answer the questions. - Walks around the class to help when necessary. - Asks Ss to compare their answers with friends. - Calls Some Ss to read their answers in front of the class. - Gives correct answers: Task 2 - Work in groups. - Read the passage carefully. - Read carefully questions to understand them. - Read scan the text again and underline the key words to decide what information they need to find in the text to answer the questions. - Compare answers with friends. - Read aloud the answer in front of the class. 1. The representatives of the classes of the speaker’s school (line 1, paragraph 1). 2. The aim was to stimulate the spirit of learning English among students(line 3-4, paragraph 1). 3. The students’ Parents Society(line 4, paragraph 1). 4. They had to complete 5 activities in all. On completion of each activity, they dad to answer the question in the worksheets within 2minutes(line 1-4, paragraph 2). 5. They had to observe and score the Ss’ performance. A maximum score of each activity was 15. At the end of competition they would announce the total score of each group. The group that got the highest scores will be the winner (line 4-7, paragraph 2). 6. A set of CDs for studying English and an Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary(line 8-9, paragraph 2). Task 3 : (6 minutes) - Asks Ss to read paragraph 3 again and complete the sentences. - Asks Ss to read the sentences on the book carefully to understand them. - Asks Ss to read scan paragraph 3 of the text again and underline the key words to decide what information they need to find in the text to complete sentences. - Asks Ss to work in groups and then discuss the following couples. - Walks around the class to help when necessary. - Asks Ss to compare their answers with friends. - Calls Some Ss to read their completing sentences. - Gives correct answers. Task 3 - Work in groups. - Read carefully questions to understand them. - Read scan paragraph 3 of the text again and underline the key words to decide what information they need to find in the text to complete sentences. - Compare answers with friends. - Read aloud the sentences in front of the class. - Write correct answers: 1. to recite/ complete the poem because he could not remember the last sentence. 2. ..became the winner of the competition. 3. 60 points. 4. . “For me the important thing was our participation in the completion and enjoyment we had from it” 4. After you read : (5 minutes) - Read s the poem aloud once or twice and gets Ss to repeat each line after. - Asks Ss to practice reciting the poem in their own groups. - Gives some new words and explains the meaning. Homework. (1 minutes) - Asks Ss to do the tasks again and summarize the main points of the lesson - Prepare the new lesson. After you read - Listen and repeat. - Practice reciting the poem in the own groups. - Copy new words on. - Work in groups - Read the poem and decide the best performers are. - Read the translations to the class. - Decide whose translations the best. Homework. - Do the tasks again and summarize the main points of the lesson - Prepare the new lesson.
