Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to - Read about friendship - Scan read for specific ideas - Skim read for general ideas B. Materials: - Picture, handouts C. PROCEDURE Stages &time Teacher’s activities Student’s activities I. Warm- up 7 mins Guessing the picture - Divide the class into two groups - Show the picture of leisure activities and ask S to write down as many as activities described on the picture. - Fix the time - Call to groups to the green board to write down the answer. The group which has more marks wins the game - Declare the winner - Group work - Team work II. Pre- reading 5 mins Lead- in Do you often listen to music in your free time? How much time do you spend on it every day? (Yes, a lot). How often do you meet friends? What do you often do you when you meet together ?( Sometimes, play football, go out ...) - Ask S to look at the activities from 1 to 6 and tell which activities most British people often do in their free time - Write down the Ss' guesses on the BB after Ss have made their guesses Ex: - Watch TV - Shopping - Meeting friend - Playing sports - Singing - Reading books - The whole class III. While- reading 25 mins - Give new words Vocabulary 1. pastime(n): 2. household (n) 3. course(n) 4. apart from (adj) Checking Slap the board game - Let S read the reading text Activity 1 : - Have a quick check - Allow S 3 minutes to do and tell which of their guesses are right - Call on some Ss to give answers - Tick at the right guesses, and a cross at wrong ones Watch TV Shopping meeting friend Playing sports listen to music Reading books Activity 2: Multiple choice test - Ask S to read the reading text and then work in pairs to do the multiple choice test ( task 1/ page 156) - Call on some pairs to give the answers Suggested answers: 1A 2B 3B 4A 5B 6A Activity 3: Questions- Answers - Divide the class into groups of four - Give handout( questions) to each group - Ask S to read the text again and work in groups of four to write their answers on the handouts - Ask the groups to exchange the handouts for correction - Call on some groups to give the answers, asking each group to correct the answers on the handout - Ask if the groups did good work - Ask each groups to take its handout back after correction - The whole class - Individually IV. Post-reading 5 mins Group discussion T asks Ss to work in groups of four to discuss one of the following topics - should students play computer games to relax? - The bad effects of watching TV. - Among the most common leisure activities in Britain, which do you like most?
