The chart in the textbook (page 86).
-suggested questions:
a)	What does the chart look like?
b)	What does the chart shows?
c)	Are the parts in the chart equal?
d)	What are the continents in the chart?
Suggested answers:
a) It looks like a pie / it is a round so it is a pie chart.
b) It shows the distribution of world population by region.
c) No, they are not.
d) They are Asia, Europe, Africa, America, and Oceania.
- T asks Ss to look on page 86
- T asks Ss some questions relating to the chart.
- Ss answer the questions.

- T explains more about the chart.

III) WHILE-WRITING:
Write a paragraph of 100 – 120 words using the information in the chart:
- T asks Ss to write the paragraph in 15 minutes.
- T moves around to control and gives helps (structures, vocabulary...) if necessary.

IV) POST-WRITING:
Sharing and comparing
- Sample writing:
The pie chart shows the distribution of the world population by region. Overall, more than half of the world’s population lives in South and East Asia.
It can be seen that Asia ranks first in population. South Asia is the biggest region, making up 32% of the world population. The second largest area is East Asia with 6% less than South. Europe ranks second after Asia with 15%. Its population is nearly half of South Asia’s. Coming next is America which accounts for 14% in all, 8% of which belongs to Latin America and the rest belongs to Northern America. The fourth rank is Africa with 3% less than America. Finally, Oceania is the least populated region with the smallest percentage of 2%.
In a word, the population of the world is distributed unevenly among regions.
- T asks Ss to work in pairs, share the writing with each other and choose the best paragraph to speak out.
- Ss correct the mistakes for their partners.
- T goes around to give helps.
- T calls on some Ss to speak out.
- T asks Ss to give their comments. 
- T collects the writings of Ss.
- T gives feedbacks and a sample paragraph to Ss (handouts).

V) HOMEWORK:
- Write a complete paragraph in their own words basing on the corrected ideas.
- Exercise in the workbook (page 51)
- T summarizes the lesson (if enough time).
- T asks Ss to learn the useful language, rewrite the paragraph, do the exercise in workbook and prepare for the next lesson.
- Ss take notes.
