What is this?
Name the pictures with the words:sprig,shrimp,spleen.
2.1.Activity 1: Arrange the following words into 3 groups : / òr/, /spl/, /spr/ 
 Shred, shrill, spring, splash, spray, split, shrimp, spleen, spread. 
2.2.Activity2: Listen and repeat :

1.They were all shrieking with laughter.

REDUCED RELATIVE CLAUSE :
3.1.Present participle phrase:
3.1.1.Example:
 The man spoke to John.He is my brother.
àThe man who spoke to John is my brother. 
 Relative clause
Another way :
àThe man speaking to John is my brother.
 Participle phrase
3.1.2.Notes:
-We can use a present participle to replace a relative clause which has an active meaning.
-The way of reducing :
+Step 1: Remove ralative pronoun.
+Step 2:Verb in relative clauseàinfinitive +Ing.
3.1.3.Practice:
1.Do you know that man,who is coming?
àDo you know that man,coming?
2.The girl who is playing with the dog is Lan’s sister.
àThe girl playing with the dog is Lan’s sister.
3.2.Past participle phrase :
3.2.1.Example:
The homework which is given by Mrs. White is very difficult. Relative clause
*Another way :
àThe homework given by Mrs White is very difficult. Past participle phrase
3.2.2.Notes :
-We can use a past participle to replace a relative clause which has a passive meaning.
-The way of reducing:
+Step 1:Remove relative pronoun.
+Step 2:Verb in relative clause àV3 /ed.
3.2.3.Practice:
1.The picture which was drawn by a blind has won the first prize.
àThe picture drawn by a blind has won the first prize.
2.Do you come from a city which is located in the southern part of the country?
àDo you come from a city located in the southern part of the country?
3.3.Infinitive phrase :
3.3.1.Example:
a.The last person who leaves will have to turn out the lights. Relative clause
*Another way:
àThe last person to leave will have to turn out the lights. Infinitive phrase
b.He is the only boy that came late.
 Relative clause
àHe is the only boy to come late.
 Infinitive phrase
3.3.2.Notes:
-We can use To-infinitive to replace a relative clause.We often use To-infinitive after ordinal number ( first,second,),after NEXT,LAST,AFTER,ONLY,and after superlative adjectives.
-The way of reducing:
+Step 1:Remove relative pronoun.
+Step 2:Verb in relative clauseàTo-infinitive.

àWhich was the first country to win the world cup?
2.She was the first woman who leaves early.
àShe was the first woman to leave early.
Reduce the following relative clauses into phrases :(poster/handouts)
1.The girls who are playing in the school yard are in our class.
2.Most of the goods which are made in this factory are exported.
3.The first team which wins the competition will have a three-day holiday in England.
*Answer:
1.àThe girls playing in the school yard are in our class.

-Do these exercises in textbook (page 131-132).
-Make 3 sentences relative clauses replaced by participles and To-infinitive.
-Prepare for the next lesson.
