III/ New Lesson: - THE ADVERB OF TIME “NO LONGER” - INVERSION OF SUBJECT & VERB 1/ The adverb of time: NO LONGER (Using pictures and setting situations) Examples: Eg1: At present, Hong Son is no longer the player of Vietnamese national football team. (be) ; (not anymore/anylonger) After “Be” Eg2: Dinosaurs don’t exist on the earth anymore. = Dinosaurs no longer exist on the earth. (V) Before “Ordinary Verb” Eg3: We can not meet him (The composer - Trinh Cong Son) anylonger. = We can no longer meet him. (Mod.V) After “Modal verb” Eg4: The Beatles have not sung together anymore. = The Beatles have no longer sung together. (Aux.V) After “Auxilary Verb” SUMMARY: Meaning: No longer = Not anymore/anylonger : “ không cònnữa” Positions: No longer After “Be” After “ Modal Verb’’ After “ Auxilary Verb” Before “ Ordinary Verb” 1.2/ The Adverb “ Still” ( Setting situations) Eg5: Both Cancer and Aids are still dangerous diseases. Eg6: Yellow fever is no longer a dangerous disease. SUMMARY: Meaning: Still : “ vẫn, vẫn còn” ≠ No longer Positions: The same positions with “no longer” 1.3/ Drill: Practice 1 Rewrite the sentences provided using “No longer” 1/ She hasn’t lived here anymore. 2/ We will not make the same mistakes anymore. 3/ My aunt doesn’t do all her washing by hand anylonger. 4/ That programme can not be televised anymore. 5/ I have lost contact with him because we are not friends anymore. 6/ Some workers don’t work for ABC Company anylonger. â Suggested answers: 1/ She has no longer lived here. 2/ We will no longer make the same mistakes. 3/ My aunt no longer does all her washing by hand . 4/ That programme can no longer be televised.
