I. Objectives:

1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students are able to:

 - O1: familarise themselves with lexis, grammartical structures, intonation of a new unit

 - O2: Use some lexical items with preciseness related to the topic World Heritage Sites in Vietnamm such as: excavate, complex, imperial, demolish, dynasty, etc.

 - O3: Activate their existing background knowledge concerning the topic World Heritage Sites in Vietnam

 2. Skills: By the end of the lesson, students are able to:

 - O4: have relatively effective discussions with their peer

 - O5: take advantage of prediction skill before reading/listening

3. Attitudes: By the end of the lesson, students are able to:

- O6: have more appreciation for the nature landscapes and historical sites of Vietnam

- O7: be more aware of the language and knowledge they about to use throughout the units

Lesson 1: Getting started/ p.31Objectives:
Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students are able to:
 - O1: familarise themselves with lexis, grammartical structures, intonation of a new unit

Activity 1 Warm-up (7m)
- activate Ss’ existing knowledge of World Heritage Sites in Vietnam
- energise the atmosphere of the lesson 
- O3: Activate their existing background knowledge concerning the topic World Heritage Sites in Vietnam. 
O6: have more appreciation for the nature landscapes and historical sites of Vietnam.
- O7: be more aware of the language and knowledge they about to use throughout the units
Game: Guessing the hidden picture
- T shows 6 pieces of jigsaw representing 6 World Heritage sites in Vietnam covering the complete picture, about The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long
- T gets Ss into 3 big groups introduces the rules, announces the points each piece of picture and the complete picture carries. T announce the bonus and minus point mechanisms 
- T listens to Ss’ answers and make judgments, explain an answer, note down the points each group gets.
- T gives praises to the prevailing group and boosts the others. 
- T uncovers the other picture if the complete picture is guessed too soon. 
-T leads in the lesson:
 “Unit 8: Our World Heritage Sites”- Lesson 1: Getting started
- Present the expectation of this unit for Ss 
- Briefly list the outcome of Lesson 1
- Ss of each big group can represent their group to answer with the voluntary spirit. 
- The quickest individual student will see the picture and guess.

Activity 2 Pre-teaching vocabulary (10m)
- help Ss to get prepared for the reading text 
- help Ss to familarise themselves with the lexis related to the topic, may appear thoughout the unit. 
-O1: familarise themselves with lexis
- O2: Use some lexical items with preciseness related to the topic World Heritage Sites in Vietnam
Pre-teach vocabulary
T shows related picture/ and some prime collocations with them for Ss to guess. 
T shows the exact word and drill pronunciation.
Show the completed collocations/ example
- The other words are repeatedly conducted with the same process. 
- Some words need concept checking with pictures.
- T shows the last slide containing the whole lexis
Ss guess the exact word by the help of the words they collocate with/ elicited pictures.
Ss pronounce after audio. Ss perform repeatedly till the last word.
Ss take note.

- T introduces the aim of this activity, task’s requirement, working pattern and checks their understanding prior to delivering handouts.
- T spares 1 minute for Ss to guess.
- T checks with the whole class. 
 - Ss look at screen and think of an answer. 
- Ss voice their answer by saying “yes” or “no”.
Activity 4
While-stage 
(18 m)
- helps Ss check their guess at the previous activity
- have them expose to input for internalisations
 - O1:familarise themselves with lexis, grammatical structures, intonation of a new unit. 
- O4: have relatively effective discussions with their peer.
Check their prediction (3’)
- T plays the recording for the first time and asks Ss to listen to and check their prediction. 
- T shows the answer of the prediction task.
- Quickly check Ss by hand-raising if they get all answers correct. 
Read and do task 2 (5’)
- T tells Ss to fasten their focus on Task 2, underline key words, scan it in the dialogue to finish Task 2 in their textbook simultaneously. Reminder “Don’t forget to indicate the evidence helping you to find answer”
- Allow Ss 2 minutes to do the task.
- Tell Ss to discuss with their neighbors within 1 minute
- T corrects answers with the whole class.
Task 3: Vocabulary practice (2’)
-As vocabulary has already been pre-taught, this task will be done by Ss without re-reading the text. 
- T checks answers with the whole class 
Task 4: Introduction to grammatical feature of the unit (5’) 
- T lets Ss work in pair to complete and discuss their answer in 2 minutes 
- T tells Ss to discuss with their neighbors to see what the difference between given sentences and the ones they find, esp. the verb. 
- T picks randomly a pair to speak out their answer for task 4 and compare two sentences.
- T elicits Ss’ answer as a whole class with Qs: “Which kind of sentence are they, reported speech, passive voice or sth alike?”, Which one contains verb in active, passive voice?”
- T introduces: “In this unit, you will learn reducing relative clause with participial phrases, to infinitive
- Ss listen to the audio and check their prediction. 
- Do as T instructs

 - Ss underline key words, check keyword underlining with the teacher.
- Scan the dialogue to find answers and underline evidence for their later justification.

 - Ss discuss within their pairs.
- Ss answers T’s questions when they are picked randomly to answer.
Activity 5 Wrap-up & assignment
