B. Procedure:

Teaching aids: Blackboard, chalk, handouts Textbook, lesson plan................... Procedure: Teacher’s activities Time Students’ activities I. Organization: - T checks the number of students and asks Ss to make some class arrangement. 1 min - The monitor reports the number of students in his/her class to the teacher. II. Checking the old lesson: - T calls 2 sts to find the answers to the T’s questions orally. - asks some sts to give comments. - gives comments and marks. 5 mins - come to the board and answer - give comments - listen III. New lesson: Warm- up: - T divides the class into small groups of 3- 4 students. Then T distributes the following crossword puzzle handouts for Ss to do in their own groups. Which group finishes first and has all the correct answers will be the winner. (crossword puzzle-see the supplement) - T explains the word “embarassing” and introduces the topic: An embarassing situation. 4mins - receive the handouts and do the crossword. - observe Before you read: - T gets Ss to work in pairs and try to make sense of the pictures on page 22. Then T gets them to put the pictures in the order that they think is most appropriate. - T calls on some pairs to present their ideas but should not correct them. If Ss have difficulty talking about the pictures, T may elicit their answers by asking questions and giving prompts. E.g: What can you see in picture A? What do you think might be relationship between the girl and the man? Why? What do you see on the table? Whose money do you think it is? Why? etc. 5mins - work in pairs - present their ideas - listen and answer the T’s questions. While you read: Task 1: - T asks one S to read the requirement and translate it ino Vietnamese. - T explains what Ss have to do and guides them how to do. - T asks students to work in pair - T asks them to find the words that are suitable with the blanks. - T goes around, controls and helps. - T translates some words into Vietnamese to help them find words exactly. - T calls some students to stand up and do the task. - T checks sts’ answers and corrects. 1. glanced, 2. making a fuss, 3. embarassing, 4. idols, 5. sneaky Task 2: - T asks Ss to read the text in silence and then with a peer work out the sequence of the pictures given on page 22 again. - T calls on a S to give and explain his/ her answer. - T gives corrective feedback. 1. d, 2. b, 3. f, 4. e, 5. a, 6. c Task 3: - T checks if Ss can answer the comprehension questions in Task 3 without having to read the passage again. If Ss cannot, T gets them to read the questions carefully and gives some tips to do the task: + First, Ss should skim the 5 questions to understand them. As Ss do this they.... Underline the key words to decide what information they need to find in the text. Look for questions words like “why” which indicates Ss should read for specific thing like a reason. + Then they should go back to the passage and locate the key words in the passage. + Then they should read around the key words carefully to find the answer. - T gets Ss to check their answers with a peer. - T calls on some Ss to write their answers on the board and asks them to explain their choices. - T gives the correct answers: 1. A floppy cotton hat 2. To buy a floppy cotton hat 3. A wad of dollar notes that look exactly like those her father had given her. 4. She thought that was her own money and the boy had stolen it from her. She wanted to take it back without making a fuss. 5. She bought the hat of her dream. 20mins - read the requirement and translate - listen to the T’s explanations carefully. - Pair work - find the words that are suitable with the blanks - do the task - copy down - read in silence and work out the sequence of the pictures - copy down - work in pairs doing the task - answer the questions or read the questions carefully. - follow the T’s tips - give out the answers - check and note down After you read: - T asks Ss to work in groups of three or four discussing the question . - T gives Ss some suggestions if necessary - T calls on some groups to present their talk. 5mins - work in groups of 3 or 4 discussing. - listen - present IV- Consolidation: - T asks Ss what they have to remember after the lesson. 4mins - tell what they have to remember and learn at home.
