Objectives : By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to: - Know more about the relative clauses: defining RC and non-defining RC. - Do exercises related to the relative clauses: defining RC and non-defining RC. 2. Teaching aids: - blackboard, chalk, handouts - textbook, lesson plan B. Procedures Teacher’s activities Time Students’ activities I. Organization - T checks the number of students and asks Ss to make some class arrangement. II. Checking the old lesson - T calls on one student to go to the board and asks some questions about him/her. - T gives comments and marks. III. New lesson 1. Warm- up : Noughts and crosses - T divides the class into 2 groups, instructs them how to play the game. who boy where which that when what whom girl - T gets sts to play the game. - T declares the winner 2. Grammar : Relative clauses a. Presentation - T writes two examples about the relative clauses on the board and asks sts to comment on them. Eg: - Lan, who lives next to my door, is very beautiful. - The book which I bought yesterday is very interesting. Định nghĩa: MĐQH hay còn được gọi là mệnh đề tính từ. Nó được dùng để phụ nghĩa hay để nói rõ hơn về danh từ chỉ người hay vật đứng trước nó. Eg: The girl who is talking to my father is Hoa. Phân loại: 1. MĐQH xác định: Là mệnh đề thực sự cần thiết ở trong câu. Nó được dùng để xác định cho danh từ đứng trước và làm rõ nghĩa cho cả câu. Eg: The man who works hard always success in life. 2. MĐQH không xác định: Là mệnh đề không thực sự cần thiết ở trong câu. Nó chỉ cung cấp thêm thông tin phụ cho danh từ đứng trước vì thế ta có thể bỏ mà câu vẫn rõ nghĩa. Eg: My father, who is a doctor, works in a local hospital. Chú ý: 1. MĐQH không xác định được dùng khi: - Danh từ đứng trước là danh từ riêng. Eg: Mr. Nguyen, who is a teacher, is very strict. - Danh từ đứng trước đứng sau tính từ sở hữu. Eg: His father, who works for this factory, has fallen off his motorbike. - Danh từ đứng trước đứng sau tính từ chỉ định: this, that, these. those. Eg: This boy, whose father died, is very naughty. - Danh từ có cụm từ theo sau để bổ nghĩa. Eg: The house at the corner of the street, which was built 100 years ago, was pulled down yesterday. 2. Ta luôn dùng dấu phẩy trước và sau MĐQH không xác định. 3. Ta không bỏ ĐTQH trong MĐQH không xác định khi nó giữ chức năng làm tân ngữ. 4. Ta không dùng “that” trong MĐQH không xác định. b.
