2) Pre-Reading:
- Ask students to look at the first picture in the book and ask them some questions:
Are they having a party?
What party is it?
- Ask students to look at the second picture and ask some questions:

à The lesson today gives us some information about birthday and wedding anniversaries in the US.

3) While-Reading:
a) Task 1: Read and Tick
- gets Ss to read the passage silently and do Task 1.

- Divide the class into 2 groups
- place a pack of cards on the desk, face down.
- Assign one representative from each group to take turns to choose a card at random.
- He / she has to draw the word he / she sees on the card. He / she just gestures or mimes the word
- The other Ss in each group try to guess the word
- One correct word earns one point
- The group with more points wins.

- Ask Ss to work in group of 5 or 6
- Tell each group to take out a sheet of paper and design an invitation card with colored pencils they can find
- Ask Ss to write some information on the cards to invite a friend of them to their next birthday party

- Ask Ss to share, compare and pick the winning group whose invitation card is well designed

Last Saturday was my 17th birthday. My parents helped me to hold a birthday party at home. I invited a lot of friends and we had a great time.
The party began at 7 p.m. We had pizzas and some special dishes that my mom cooked. Then mom brought out a beautiful cake, decorated with fruits and 17 colourful candles in the middle. As I blew out the candles, my friends and family sang the “Happy birthday” song. They clapped their hands happily, as I could blow out the candles at a go. Then mom cut the cake and we had it, together with cheesecake, fruit juice. Dad played guitar and sang me a beautiful song. My friends also sang along and danced.
The party ended at 8:30 because some of my friends live in the suburb and they needed to catch the 8:45 bus. I felt very happy because the party went very well and we had a wonderful time together
