- T asks Ss to read the letter and underline the new words.
- T explains the new words.
- T asks Ss to fill in the missing words from the box.

Run through the questions
Help Ss what they don’t understand
- Ask Ss to use the letter and the questions as suggestions above to write a letter of invitation.

- Call on some Ss to go to the board and write their letter.
- Listen to Ss and collect their mistakes for indirect correction.

Dear Ha,
As the school year is coming to an end, I’m giving a farewell party for people to meet up before they go away for holiday. Would you like to come? It will be at my place at 7 p.m. this coming Saturday. I intend to invite about 10 people, so it will be a small gathering and hopefully, people can socialize more easily. I will order some pizzas and buy snacks and fruit. However, you might want to bring some drinks to be shared. There will be dancing and karaoke competition. So, there’ll be a lot of fun .
Please let me know if you are keen by Saturday. Just leave me a message on the phone if you can’t catch me at home.

-Get pupils to elicit the features of an information letter normally includes :
+The even (what you invite your friends to): a wedding, a birthday party etc...
+The place: my parents’ place, my school etc...
+The invitation itself (Would you like to come ? How about...? etc....)

* Pronunciation:
Order these words in correct column of /l/, /r/, /h/:

- Hang on a flipchart of the sounds on the board and introduce the sounds to the Ss. Teacher reads the sounds three times.

2. Passive infinitive and gerund:
+ Form : Passive infinitive : to be + Past Participle
Ex : -We hope to be considered again .(à passive of subject)
 -He swore not to be treated like that again.
 -She works hard not to be blamed. (à reason)
 -He gave money to the poor children to be honored.
-I am eager to be selected. / She is glad to be invited to the party. 
(à adjectives)
-It’s time to be separated / we have the right to be loved (àafter noun)
-He made a decision to be arrested
-Do you have permission to be married at the age of 15 ?
 + Form : Passive gerund : being + Past Participle 
Ex : - Instead of being selected, he failed to get the job .
 - The new students are keen on being included in the school activities .
 - I enjoy being phoned.
 - Being treated unfairly made her decide to quit the job . (à subject)
 - Being welcome is what he expected.
 - I don’t like being laughed at . (à object)
 - He doesn’t mind being criticized.
 - She is afraid of being beaten. (object of prepositions)
 - My father was looking forward to being warmly greeted at the meeting.
* Exercise 1: - Ask Ss to work in pairs to do Exercise 1.
- Give enough time for Ss to do it.
- Move around to help if necessary.
