UNIT 13: ACTIVITIES AND THE SEASONS SECTION A: THE WEATHER AND SEASONS OBJECTIVES: Students can talk about the seasons, the weather and what people often do during the seasons. B/ Vocabulary: seasons fall cool weather summer warm spring winter 2- Language skills: Listening – speaking – reading - writing 3- Teaching method: Communicative approach 4- Teaching aids: Pictures, cassette, charts Teaching steps: Procedures Teacher Students A.1 Listen and repeat - Tells students to sing a song - Introduces the topic “weather” Reviews the adjectives hot, cold, warm, cool. Introduces the seasons: Spring, summer, fall and winter (use pictures). Lets students listen to the cassette and repeat. Gives more explanation if necessary. Tell them about the equivalent of the word “autumn” (BE) and “fall” (AE) Sing a song Review the adjectives and notes. Listen to the teacher’s introduction. Listen to the cassette and repeat the new words. Practice in pairs, ask and answer about the weather and the seasons. Take notes. Notes A.2 Practice with a partner Asks questions about the seasons and lets some of the students answer. Have students practice in pairs, ask and answer about the weather in each season. What’s the weather like in the ? It’s hot. It’s cool. It’s cold. It’s warm. A.3 Listen and repeat. Then ask and answer Introduces the listening exercise. Lets them listen and repeat. Asks them what weather they like, encourages them to answer quickly. Lets them practice in pairs with the some model. Read the text silently, notice the adverbial clause beginning with “when” Practice in pairs. Check the answers and correct if there is mistake. Take notes and learn by heart. Shows them pictures and lets them make question (How often), then answer it ( using adv of frequency) Explains some new words with pictures. - New words: Go sailing Play basketball Spring, summer, fall = autumn, winter. Ask some questions about the content of this section. Asks students to listen to the tape then check how often people in the pictures do their activities in different seasons Asks questions and let them answer, looking at the pictures and the charts. Reads the sentences which is disorderly written and ask them to rewrite in order. Checks and give correct keys. Retell the names of the sports. Look at the picture and try to make the questions ( group work). Listen to the cassette. Listen to the teacher’s questions and find out the answers Work in groups. Rewrite the sentences in correct order after listening to the teacher. Correct the exercises and copy in the notebooks. B.2 Write lists of things you do in the different seasons Asks students to list the activities they often do in different seasons (gives a model). Lets them practice in pairs the dialogue like the model Asks them to write their activities in their notebook. Has them do exercises in the workbook on page 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111. Individual Practice with their partners. Write their own activities in their notebook. Do exercises.
