Warm up: (8’) Quiz (Group work) Pre-writing (10mins) 1. Answer the questions (7mins) - Give instructions: “I am going to give you a hand out. You will read the paragraph in the hand out and answer the questions follow.” (See hand out-appendix) - Check instructions: + Are you going to work in group, pair or individually? + What are your duties? - After 5mins, call five sts one after another to stand up and say their answers. - Ask another person to comment after that giving feedback and correct answers with the whole class. Correct answers: 1. Its name is Christmas 2. Its main purpose is to mark the birth of Jesus. 3. It is held on December 25th. 4. People give presents to each other, send cards, sing, decorate Christmas trees, and put up lights around the house. 5. Yes, they do. Because it is the time, they can share peaceful moment with family. 2. Consulate the structure of writing paper (6mins) - Ask sts to read the paragraph again. - Elicit the following questions to work out the structure of paragraph: How many main parts are there in the paragraph? F Expected answer: 3 main parts (topic sentence, supporting idea, conclusion) Which sentences does each part include? F Expected answer: Topic sentence: the 1st sentence Supporting idea: the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th sentence Conclusion: the two last sentences - Give structure of a paragraph about a description of celebration: *Open: - Topic sentence (Name) * Body: - Main purpose Supporting idea: -Time - Main activities * Conclusion: - Feeling about the festival While writing (26mins) 1: Getting idea (10mins) - Get sts have a piece of paper and ask them to draw a table like that: (Use poster) Name of the festival The purpose Time Main activities The reason - Give instructions: “I would like you work in pair. You will interview your partner about the celebration he/she likes most and then take note on the table” - Check instructions: + Are you going to work in pair or group? + What are your duties? - Ask one student the following questions as a model: T: What celebration do you like most? S: (It’s Tet holiday) T: When is it held? S: (At the beginning of spring) T: What is the purpose of Tet? S: (It is the start of the lunar New Year) T: What do you usually do at Tet? S: (We eat a lot of special food, dress up and visit friends & relatives) T: Why do you like it? S: (Because I will be received a lot of lucky money) - Go around as a monitor for observing and offering help if necessary. 2. Producing texts (16mins) - Ask sts to write a description of celebration using the information on their table. - Go around and give help when necessary. - Take notes some common mistakes for later correction. Post writing: (1mins)( at home) - Ask them to exchange their paper with another one for peer correction at home. - Give something sts should check such as vocabulary, grammar, form... 5. Home work: (2’) - Write a report about 100 words on the sport result you know at 22nd Sea Game. - Prepare for the next lesson.
