II. METHOD: Integrated, mainly communicative.

III. TEACHING AIDS: Textbook, Sub-board, lesson plan.

I. OBJECTIVES
Aims: Educate Ss to appropriate about the population in Vietnam and on the world. 
 - Ask for and give information about the population in Vietnam and on the world.
 - Talk about the causes of population explosion, problems of population booms and solutions to these problems.
 Lexical items: Words and phrases related to population.

1.Warm-up
- Asks Ss some questions
1. What do you think is the main cause of the population explosion?
- Guides Ss to answer the question.
* Introduce the new lesson.
1.Warm-up 
- Listen and prepare answer.
- Answer free.

2.Before you Speaking
Task 1
- Asks Ss to work in pairs. Below are some of the causes of population explosion. Put them in order of importance and explain why.
+Fewer children die at birth.
+People are not aware of the problem of overpopulation.
+People are not properly educated.
+People believe that having many children means happiness.
+Religion doesn’t encourage people to have fewer children.
+Many people believe that having a large family is form of insurance.
- Asks Ss to read through the causes population explosion to understand these statements.
- Guides Ss to make some strategies before class.
- Asks Ss to work in pairs and discuss the following couples.
- Walks around the class to help when necessary.
- Asks them to compare their answers with friends.
- Calls some Ss to read the answers in front of the class.
- Suggested answers.
- Asks Ss to explain “ why? ”
2.Before you Speaking
Task 1
- Work in pairs. Below are some of the causes of population explosion. Put them in order of importance and explain why.
- Read through the causes population explosion to understand these statements.
- Compare the answers with friends.
- Write the correct answers.
1. People are not properly educated.
2. People are not aware of the problem of overpopulation.
3. Fewer children die at birth.
4. Many people believe that having a large family is form of insurance. 
5. People believe that having many children means happiness.
6. Religion doesn’t encourage people to have fewer children.
- Compare T’s answers.
- Practice the sentences in front of the class.
3.While you Speaking 
Task 2
* Go through the list and pick out the problems facing poor and overpopulated countries.
- Introduces some idioms and explain the meaning.
- Asks Ss to read the idioms careful to understand them.
- Guides Ss to make some strategies.
- Asks Ss to write the problems facing poor and overpopulated countries.
- Asks Ss to work in pairs and discuss the following couples.
- Asks Ss to compare their answers with friends.
- Calls some Ss to read the answers in front of the class.
- Suggested answers:
+Living standards / conditions – poverty – illiteracy – travelling – lack of food, school, hospital, doctor, nurse, teacher – housing – shopping – traffic jam – pollution – entertainment – transportation – unemployment 
3.While you Speaking 
Task 2
- List the problems facing poor and overpopulated countries. Then report your results to the class.
- Copy down.
- Read the idioms careful to understand them.
- Work in pairs and discuss the following couples.
- Compare their answers with friends.
- Write the correct answers.
A. What can be problems that face poor and overpopulated countries?
B: I think people living there have bad living conditions and do not have enough food to eat. There is also a lack os schools and hospitals.
A. What’s more there aren’t enough jobs for everyone?
B: Their lives are terrible and their children are often illiterate.
- Compare T’s answers.
- Practice them in front of the class.
Task 3
* Work out the solutions to the problems of overpopulation and offer solution, using the results of Task 2 and Task 3.
- Introduces some idioms and explain the meaning.
- Asks Ss to read the idioms careful to understand them.
- Guides Ss to make some strategies.
- Asks Ss to work in groups and practice the following pairs.
- Asks Ss to work in groups and discuss the following couples.
- Walks around the class to help when necessary.
- Asks them to compare their answers with friends.
- Calls some Ss to read the answers in front of the class.
- Suggested answers.
+ raise an awareness of the problems of overpopulation.
+ raise the people’s living standard.
+ exercise / implement reward and punishment policy.
+ carry out population education program/ family planning program.
Task 3
* Work out the solutions to the problems of overpopulation and offer solution, using the results of Task 2 and Task 3.

- Write the correct answers.
A: What should the government do to control the growth of population?
B: I think they should raise their people’s awareness of the problem of overpopulation/ problems caused by overpopulation.
A: That sounds good but what do they exactly?
B: They should carry out population education programs and tell them about family planing.
A: What if some don’t want to ?
B: Them they should have a reward and punishment policy.
A: Ok, it sounds better.
- Compare T’s answers.
- Practice them in front of the class.

Task 4
- Asks Ss to talk about the problems of overpopulation and offer, using the results of task 2 and task 3.
