They refer to a possible condition and its probable result. Ex: - If I run, I’ll get there in time 2 If + simple past, would + infinitive. *Like type 1, 2 refers to the present or future, and the past tense in the if- clause is not a true past but a sunjunctive, which indicates unreality or improbablity. Ex: - If I studied, I would pass the exams.
