I. Aim:

- Teaching three monologues on how people would like to spend their holiday

- Teaching students how to answer True-False and comprehension questions in listening.

II. Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

- Develop such listening micro-skills as listening for gist and listening for specific information.

III. Teaching aids:

- English 11 textbook, CD player, recorded tapescript

IV. Anticipated problems:

- Students may forget the tips to answer True-False and comprehension listening questions  teacher can help them recall the tips before doing the tasks.

- There may be some technical problems  teacher should be well-

Lesson 4: Listening
Aim:
Teaching three monologues on how people would like to spend their holiday
Teaching students how to answer True-False and comprehension questions in listening.
Objectives: 
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
Develop such listening micro-skills as listening for gist and listening for specific information.
Teaching aids:
English 11 textbook, CD player, recorded tapescript
Anticipated problems:
Students may forget the tips to answer True-False and comprehension listening questions à teacher can help them recall the tips before doing the tasks.
There may be some technical problems à teacher should be well-prepared.

- Asks Ss to list the activities they often do in their summer holiday.
- Asks them some other questions:
+ Where/With whom/ Why do you often do that activity?
- Answer T’s questions
Before you listen
8’
- Aim: to help students with the new words and structures used in the tape
- Introduces: you are going to listen to some students talking about how they would like to spend their holiday. But now, open your book page 158 and answer the question (What can you see in the two pictures?) quickly. 
- Listens to Ss’ answers
- Writes some words on the blackboard, reads them aloud, explains the meaning, asks students to read in chorus and individually, and gives them some time to take notes into their notebooks.
- The words to be taught:
campgrounds: nơi cắm trại 
trash: rubbish
wilderness: vùng hoang dã
giant trees: big trees
waterfalls: thác nước
depressed: very sad
dirt bike: xe đạp địa hình
solitude: loneliness
backpack: bag carried on the back
scenery: landscape

- Listen to T
- Give the answers
- Listen to the teacher, read out the words in chorus and individually, take notes, ask questions if any.

- Aim: to get students to do the listening tasks
- Introduces Task 1- page 158: Three students are talking about how they would like to spend their holiday. Listen and decide whether the statements are true (T) of false (F)
- Gives Ss one minute to look through the questions and underline the key words.
- Asks Ss whether there are new words and structures, if any, gives the explanation.
- Plays the tape twice for Ss to do the task.
- Asks for Ss’ answers, and writes them on the board
- Plays the tape another time with pauses at each clue for Ss to be clear about the correct answers.
- Gives the correct answers
- The correct answers are:
1. T (It’s hot and humid in New York cities in the summer and I often feel depressed then.)
2. T (an we spend about two weeks in a national park every year)
3. F (I used to go to the mountains, the desert)
4. T (I’m still attracted to the beauty of nature)
5. F (It’s for animals and plants, not for me)
6. T (I’d better stay in the cities and enjoy the comfort they offer)
- Introduces task 2-page 142: Answer the questions
- Asks Ss for their answers before listening again (to check whether they remember what they’ve listened to).
- Listens to Ss’ answers, writes them on the board
- Plays the tape again for Ss to answer the questions
- Asks for Ss’ answers again and their explanation
- Gives the correct answers, plays the tape with pauses where necessary if Ss are not completely satisfied with the given answers.
- The correct answers are:
1. What she likes best is to ride at dirt bike in the desert, take showers in waterfalls, and swim in lakes and rivers.
2. In their sleeping bags or tents
3. Because now more and more people are going to these places, they leave trash in the forest and they take rocks and plants with them.
4. Nature (Nature is important, too)
5. In cities (when I travel I spend most of my time in cities)
6. Because she can’t put up an umbrella tent in the wind, she can’t make a fire in the rain, and the backpack is usually too heavy for her.
- Listen to the teacher’s introduction to task 1
- Look through the questions and underline the key words in one minute
- Asks questions if any
- Listen to the tape and do the task

- Introduces the task: In three minutes, tell your partner which of the following activities you like to do best in your free time and the reasons for your decision. The activities are: go to the mountains, go to the beach, go to the museum, go to the cinema, go to a music concert, go shopping, and search the Internet. 
- Walks around to offer language help if necessary.
- Calls some students to talk about their decision and the reasons.
- Listens and gives comments
- Listen to T’ introduction to the task, ask questions if any
- Talk with their partner

+ Write about the advantages/disadvantages of camping
