Warm-up & lead-in (7’) Game: Cut – up Pictures -Divide the class into three groups ,A,B , C -Give each group the pieces of 3 pictures cut up and shuffled. (Yuri Gagarin, Neil Armstrong, and an astronaut). (appendix) -tell the groups to put the pieces together to have complete pictures and then write the names in the space provided. -When they have finished, stick their pictures on the board. -The first group to finish and get all correct scores 5 points. With a correct name, the group wins another 5 points. -the group with more points wins the game. -Check SS’ understanding of instructions and have them start the game. -Declare the winner. -From the pictures, elicit from SS the topic of the next unit: ‘These pictures represent the topic of the next unit. What is it?’ Transition: - Yes, and that’s the topic of Unit 14. In the reading today, we ‘ll get to know more about space exploration in the world. - write down on the board: Period : Unit :14 Space Conquest ( Reading) photocopies Chalk and board. 2. Pre-reading (5’) Teaching Vocabulary -Teach some vocabulary items through a multiple choice task. -Ask SS to choose the word or phrase that is closest it meaning to the word in bold. Activity 2: Questions and answers (task b, p. 193 ) -Tell SS to read the text again and find the answers to the questions. - Ask Ss to work with a partner, ask and answer the questions. -Call on pairs to ask and answer them and check with the whole class.
