2.Reported speech.
You want to tell somebody else what Tom said.
There are two ways of doing this.
You can repeat Tom’s words ( direct speech )
Tom said “ I am feeling ill “
Or you can use reported speech
Tom said that he was feeling ill
When we use reported speech, the main verb is usually in the past ( Tom said that ./ I told her that
In general , verb forms is changed as followind:
- presenr simple – past simple: am, is – was/ are – were
- present conti - past conti : am, is Ving – was Ving
are Ving - were Ving
- Past simple and present perfect – past perfect
worked / went – had worked / had gone
have gone - had gone
III.Practice
I. Talk about a school problems and offer solutions.
Example :My shool have many problems, for example, many students work lazily. I think teacher should regularly check them and punish them.
II. Change in to reported speech.
