Unit 9: THE POST OFFICE
Period 1: Reading
Class: 11 A2
Aims and objectives: 
To improve students’ reading skill.
To help students to enrich their vocabulary about topic “The post office”.
To provide students with knowledge of services provided by Thanh Ba post office.
Language:
Vocabulary about services of post office.
Skills:
Reading for specific information.
Guessing.
Method: 
Communicative approach, integrated approach.
Techniques:
Games, multiple choice, comprehension questions, true/ false, and some techniques in teaching vocabulary.
Teaching aids:
Board, textbook, flash cards, charts.
VII. Teaching procedure: (45’)

I. Warm-up:(6’)
- Greets students.
- Checks the regular attendance.
- Asks ss about weather and their holiday.
- Has ss play a game “guessing an object”( a stamp).
- Explains the rules of the game: ss can give any Yes-No questions about shape, color, function, size, etc. of this object. Each group gives their questions respectively until they realize the object exactly. The winner is the group with fast and right guessing.
- Divides the class into 2 groups.
- Gives a suggestion about the object: “this object relates to post offices”.
- Lets ss play a game.
- Gives the stamp to the winner and asks him/ her some questions:
 + What will you do with this stamp?
 + Where do you go to send your letter?
- Leads to the new lesson.
- Greet the teacher.
- Listen and work in group.
- Listen.
II. Pre- reading:(7’)
- Asks ss some questions: 
 + Tell me some post offices in your city
 + How often do you go to the post office? What for?
 + What services do you think the post office offer?
- Gives feedback.
- Shows a chart with new words
-equip /i'kwip/ (v) : trang bị.
-notify / 'noutifai/ (v) : kê khai, khai báo.
-recipient /ri'sipiənt/ (n) : người nhận.
-distribution /,distri'bju:∫n/ (n) : sự phân phối, phân phát.
Eg: The mailman distributes newspapers to every houldhouse every day.
* Techniques: 
 + equip: translation.
 + notify: same meaning with “inform”.
 + recipient: definition.
 + distribution: guessing meaning from a context.
- Teaches new words and slaps the rule to ss read.
- Calls ss to read aloud and gives feedback.
- Listen and answer the questions.
- Look at the chart.
- Read aloud.
III. While- reading : ( 22’)
- Asks ss to open book and read the passage silently within 2 minutes.
Task 1:( 9’)
- Explains the requirement of the task.
- Divides the class into 4 groups and gives each group 4 flash charts.
- Asks each group to discuss and then write their choices A, B, C, or D for each sentence on the flash cards.
- Asks each group to stick the flash cards on the board. 
- Gives feedback.
Task 2:( 8’)
- Asks ss to read the requirement of the task. 
- Asks ss to work in pair
- Sticks a chart with right answers on the board. (hidden sentences)
1. Thanh Ba Post Office is equipped with advanced technology and has a spacious and pleasant front office.
2. We offer the best services with a well- trained staff.
3. There is air, surface mail or Express Mail Service.
4. Messenger Call Service used for notifying the recipient of the time and place to receive the call.
5. You just subscribe to your favorite newspapers and magazines.
- Calls some pairs to do each question, one student asks and the other answers. 
- Gives feedback and checks each answer on the chart.
Task 3: ( 6’)
- Asks ss to read and find evidences for sentences in the task 3.
- Calls ss to answer each sentence.
- Gives feedback.
- Listen.
- Work in group.

IV. Post- reading: (8’)
- Let ss do the task “After you read”.
- Asks ss to work in pair to answer these questions.
- Invites some pair to make a dialogue 
- Gives feedback.
- Lets ss play a game.
- Divides the class into 2 groups.
- Explains the rule of the game: “one person of each group describes some words in a chart from the teacher, the others will guess what the word is, and limited time is 1 minute”. 
- Gives ss a chart

V. Homework: (2’)
