Unit 3: A Party LESSON 1: Reading I. Objectives: 1. Procedures: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Notes Warm up. - T asks sts to look at the first picture in the book and ask them some questions: Are they having a party? What party is it? -T asks sts to look at the second picture and ask some questions: Are they friends? What are they celebrating? How old are the people in the picture? How do they feel? How long have they been married? - T leads sts to the lesson Look at the pictures and answer the questions. Before you read - T reads the text first - T asks sts to read the text silently again. - T explains some difficult words New words: 1. celebrate (v) à celebration (n) 2. joke (v/n) Ex: Don’t believe me . I’m only joking. 3. anniversary (n) +silver anniversary / silver wedding / silver jubilee : 25th wedding anniversary. + golden anniversary / golden wedding / golden jubilee: 50th wedding anniversary. +diamond anniversary / diamond wedding / diamond jubilee: 60th wedding anniversary. - T reads first and asks sts to repeat. - T asks some sts to read again. Listen and repeat While you read Task 1: - T explains 7 statements first and asks sts to find the key words. - T asks sts to read the text again to do task 1. - T asks sts to work in pairs to do the tasks within 3 mins. - After 3 mins, T checks their answers. - T listens and asks them to explain. T corrects their answers if necessary and give comments. Suggested answers. 1&2 (Both) 3&6(Birthday) 4&5 (Anniversary) Task 2 - T asks sts to read through all the sentences in task 2. - T also asks sts to find the key words of each sentence. - After that T asks sts to read the text again to find their answers and explain. - T asks sts to work in pairs to do task 2 within 3 mins. - After 3 mins, T checks their answers and asks them to explains. - T corrects their answers if necessary.
