Listening
1. Aims: 
Help Ss get some information about some atheles, kinds of sports and sports events.
Help Ss understand information given and do tasks better.
2. Lexical items: Words related to sports.
3. Teaching aids: Pictures of some athletes, black board, etc.
4. Procedure:

I. Warm – up: Guess names of sports.
Group 1: Fencing, billiards, football, cycling , boxing.
Group 2: Athletics, tennis , volleyball, swimming, bodybuilding.
_ Divide class into 2 big groups, each group has one representative (use gesture to express the words).
(The other Ss in each group guess the words and write them on the board. Group writes more words correctly and quickly will be the winner).
_ 2 Ss have to give the suitable action to express the name of sports).
_ Guess the words and write them on the board. 
II. Before you listen:
_ Ask ss to look at the pictures on page 114, and answer the questions.
+ What are the names of these sports?
+ Have you ever watched sports like these on television?
_ Explain some words by pictures.
+ bar (n)

+ gymnast (n)
+ gymnastics (n)
+ freestyle (n)
+ to land (v)
_ Ask Ss read all words individually.
_ Call some Ss to read the words.
_ Ask ss to listen and repeat the words.
_ Call some Ss read again.
_ Ask ss to read through out task 1, and predict the situation or content of the conversation.
_ Look at the pictures.
_ Guess for the names of sports.
_ Learn the words.
_ Listen and repeat the words
_ Read the information from Task 1, and guess for the answers.
III. While you listen:
Task 1: Listen and choose the best answer A, B, C or D.
_ Let Ss read Task 1 (all sentences, answers) and ask how many new words there are.
_ Give some guiding questions: 
 Tell me the sports and athletes that are mentioned in the task?
_ Suggest Ss to pay attention to the record and take notes.
_ Play the tape the first time.
_ Ask how many questions Ss can answer and write it on the board.
_ Let Ss compare answer with friends.
_ Play the tape again.
_ Check Ss’ answers and give feedback.

Task 2: Listen and answer the questions:
_ Remind Ss to read through all the questions.
_ Ask ss to listen again. Get information to answer the questions.
_ Call some pairs ( 1 asks question, 1 answers) and call one to write correct answer on the board.
_ Call others to comment the answers. 
_ Check ss’ answers and ask them to write them on the notebook.

_ Listen to the passage and take notes

IV. After you listen:

_ Let ss work in groups.
_ Give ss some suggestions:

_ Call two representives.
_Discuss in groups.
V. Home work:
_ Write a short paragraph about the athlete you like best
