Warmer: Game: Hot seat * Put two chairs in front of the class. * Asking the students to work in two groups . One person from each group sits on each chair. * Writing a word on B/.B . The others in their group explain the word without using the exact word on B/B When the person on the chair can say out the word correctly , their group will get one mark. It’s time to change another student to continue the game. The words chosen for the game : wind , coal , energy , nuclear , hydroelectricity The group that has more points will win the game * Declaring the winning group Lead– in: * Asking the students some more questions 1. While writing: Task 2 : (page 130) Write a description of the trends in energy consumption in 2005 * Asking the students to look at the description of the trends in energy consumption in 2000 in order to write another description of the trends in energy consumption in 2005 * Going around the class to control and giving help if necessary * Collecting some students’ writing to give comments in front of the class as models MODEL : The chart shows the energy consumption in Highland in 2005. As can be seen , the total energy consumption was under 170 millions tons . Nuclear & Hydroelectricity made up the largest amount of this figure (75 millions tons) . This was followed by the consumption of petroleum (50 millions tons). Coal made up the smallest amount of energy consumption (45 millions tons) * Looking at the description of the trends in energy consumption in 2000 and writing another description of the trends in energy consumption in 2005 * Listening and watching correct the writings Task 2 : (page 130) Write a description of the trends in energy consumption in 2005 The chart shows the energy consumption in Highland in 2005. As can be seen , the total energy consumption was under 170 millions tons . Nuclear & Hydroelectricity made up the largest amount of this figure (75 millions tons) . Suggested writing: There was un upward trend in the consumption of coal and nuclear and hydroelectricity , but there was a sharp decrease in the use of petroleum. The amount of coal used increased by 5 million tons and the consumption of nuclear & hydroelectricity went up dramatically by 55 million tons. However, the amount of petroleum consumed in 2005 fell by 7 million tons. * Working in groups to talk about energy consumption in High land in the years of 2000 and 2005 Task 3 : (page 130) Describe the chart , using the information in Task 1 and Task 2 Read aloud the writing Suggested writing: There was un upward trend in the consumption of coal and nuclear and hydroelectricity , but there was a sharp decrease in the use of petroleum.
