Hai noäi dung caùc em caàn nhôù: defining relative clauses (meänh ñeà quan heä xaùc ñònh) vaø non-defining relative clauses (meänh ñeà quan heä khoâng xaùc ñònh). 
Hai loaïi meänh ñeà naøy (trong phaïm vi baøi hoïc) baét ñaàu baèng WHO, WHOM, WHICH, vaø WHOSE vaø ñöôïc ñaët ngay sau danh töø noù phuï nghóa. 
1) DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES 
 Meänh ñeà quan heä xaùc ñònh khoâng theå boû ñi vì neáu khoâng coù noù, caâu seõ khoâng roõ nghóa. Caùc em haõy xem ví duï maãu vaø laøm töông töï vôùi caùc ví duï coøn laïi. 
Xong, thöû laáy meänh ñeà quan heä xaùc ñònh ra khoûi caâu xem caâu coøn roõ nghóa hay khoâng. 
Ex: a) The woman is my sister. She is standing over there. 
---> The woman who is standing over there is my sister. 
(Ngöôøi phuï nöõ ñang ñöùng ñaèng kia laø chò cuûa toâi.) 
 b) The man is my teacher. She saw him at the post office yesterday. 
 c) She works for a company. It produces cars. 
 d) The girl lives in our neighbourhood. Her parents are working in a post office. 
* CHUÙ YÙ: 
(1) WHO, WHOM vaø WHICH coù theå ñöôïc thay baèng THAT 
(2) WHOM coù theå ñöôïc thay baèng WHO

Meänh ñeà naøy coù theå ñöôïc löôïc boû (khi ñoù caâu vaãn coøn roõ nghóa) vaø thöôøng 
ñöôïc taùch khoûi meänh ñeà chính baèng daáu phaåy “,”. Ta duøng meänh ñeà quan heä 
khoâng haïn ñònh khi:
