LESSON 4: WRITING
 * Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to :
- Use connectors and conjunctions when writing a paragraph.

- Write the preparations for the Asian Games.
 - Learn the skills to work in groups.

I. Warm-up

GAME: GOLDEN KITE
- T divides class into 2 groups: Tom & Jerry
- T introduces the rule of the game:
+ T haves one word consisting of 8 letters.

+ Hint: The thing that is provided for a particular purpose.
+ Each team will take turn to say out any letter in the Alphabet.
+ Two teams can guess the word after 3 letters. 
+ If the letter is right, that group will go up a step. 
+The group that can guess the word first will win the game and take the golden kite.
- T checks Ss’ understanding of the instruction.
+ “How many letters are there in my word?”
(Expected answer: eight)
+ “What will you do if you guess right letter?”
(Expected answer: go up a step)
+ When can you guess the word?
(Expected answer: after 3 letters)
- T lets Ss play the game.
- T declares the winner.
Key word: FACILITY
LEAD IN:
What does “facility” mean in Vietnamese?
Ask Ss: “Suppose Vietnam is going to hold the coming Asian Games. What facilities does our country need to have?” 
=> “To go to the details, today we are going to write a paragraph to describe the preparations for the Games”.

1. TEACHING VOCABULARY:
- Upgrade (v) : nâng cấp 
 Eliciting technique: Example
Ex: Our school now is not in good condition. We have to upgrade to make it better. So, what does the word “upgrade” mean?
- Recruit (v) : tuyển dụng, chiêu mộ
 Eliciting technique: Explanation 
“This word means to find new people to join an organization”
- Promote (v): quảng bá, quảng cáo
 Eliciting technique: Leave me out
 Prommote => Promote

+ T calls some Ss to repeat it individually (T corrects if necessary).

T asks Ss to match the words on the left with their definition on the right.

T asks Ss to brainstorm and write down their ideas on the board (use network)
Expected answer: National stadium/ local stadium, National sport centre, Training areas, Sport buildings and roads to sport buildings, Car parks, Hotels, Guesthouses, Facilities for disable athletes, etc)
3. USEFUL LANGUAGE.	
- T elicits Ss to get the sequence adverbs:
When describing a process or an event, we need some words like first(ly), second(ly) What do we call these words? (linking words, sequence adverbs)
T asks Ss to list other sequence adverbs.
T asks Ss: “What structures can we use to describe preparations?”
T gives useful language.

III.1. Activity 1: WRITING SENTENCES
Game: What is the order?
- T divides the class into 6 groups.
- T prepares 6 pieces of paper which contain 6 cues to make sentences.

equip / hotel / guesthouse with modern facilities/welcome foreign athletes and visitors.

- T asks Ss to write a complete sentence from the cue on poster.
- T asks Ss to sticks poster on the board.

- T declares the winner.
