Revise the tenses of english
A - Objectives:
_ Revise sts somes tenses of English : Past simple, past continuous, past perfect tense
_ Helps sts to practice do exercises related to tense of English.
B – Contents
_ Grammar: Past simple tense, past continuous tense and past perfect tense
_ Vocabulary: All vocabularies in the exercises.
I/ The past simple tense
FORM
_ Normal verb: 
+ Affirmative: S+ V( S/ ES)
+ Negative: S+ DO/DOES + NOT + V
+Interrogative: DO/DOES + S + V.?
_ To Be:
+ Affirmative: S + IS/ AM/ ARE..
+ Negative : S+ IS/ AM/ARE + NOT
+ Interrogative: IS/AM/ARE + S +.?
USES:
_ Diễn tả một hành động, một thói quen ở hiện tại.
Ex: I usually go to school in the morning.
_ Diễn tả một chân lí, một sự thật hiển nhiên.
Ex: The earth moves around the sun.
 The summer is very hot.
DẤU HIỆU NHẬN BIẾT:
_ Thường đi với các trạng từ chỉ mức độ thường xuyên như: always ,usually , sometimes , often ,every / day /week ..., seldom , rarely , frequently , occasionaly,......
_ Một sổ trạng từ khác: today, everyday, every week/ month/ year.
Note: : Với những động từ thường có kết thúc là ( o,sh , s , ch, x, z ) khi chia ở ngôi thứ ba số ít ( he , she , it , N ) ta thêm "-es" vào sau động từ đó.
 Ex: She teaches English.
II. The Present continuous tense
a. Form:(+) S + was / were + V-ing 
 (-) S + was / were + not + V-ing 
 (?) Was / Were + S + V-ing?
 WH + Was / Were + S + V-ing? 
b. Uses:
- DiÔn t¶ mét hµnh ®éng ®ang x¶y ra t¹i mét thêi ®iÓmx¸c ®Þnh trong qu¸ khø. Ex:At 8 p.m last night I was doing my homework.
- DiÔn t¶ mét hµnh ®éng ®ang x¶y ra trong qu¸ khø (dïng qu¸ khø tiÕp diÔn)th× bÞ mét hµnh ®éng kh¸c c¾t ngang (sö dông qu¸ khø ®¬n). Hai hµnh ®éng nµy nèi víi nhau b»ng tõ "when or while" cã thÓ ®øng ®Çu c©u hoÆc gi÷a c©u.
Ex: I was watching TV when my father came home.
-DiÔn t¶ hai hµnh ®éng tiÕp diÔn song song x¶y ra cïng mét lóc trong qu¸ khø. (th­êng dïng víi while vµ while th­êng ®øng gi÷a c©u)
Ex: We were playing football while he was playing badminton. 
III/ The past perfect tense
a. Form: 	(+) S+ had + V-ed/ Vc3 + O
 (-) S+ hadn’t + V-ed/ Vc3 + O 
 (?) Had + S + V-ed/ Vc3 + O?
 WH + had + S + V-ed/ Vc3 + O? 
b. Uses:
- DiÔn t¶ mét hµnh ®éng hoµn thµnh tr­íc mét hµnh ®éng kh¸c trong qu¸ khø. 
Ex: - After Nam had done his homework, he went to bed.
 - They had lived in Dong Thap before they moved to HCM city
- DiÔn t¶ hµnh ®éng hoµn thµnh tr­íc mét thêi gian nµo ®ã trong qu¸ khø.
Ex: He had lived in Hanoi before 1990. 
Exercise
Exercise 1: Put the verb in bracket in the right form: To + inf or inf without to.
Mr. Thomas doesn’t let anyone .................................(smoke) in his office.
I don’t know Jack, but I’d like ...................................(meet) him.
