Procedure: Teacher’s activities Time Students’ activities Organization: - T checks the number of students and asks Ss to make some class arrangement. 1 min - The monitor reports the number of students in his/her class to the teacher. II. Checking the old lesson: - T calls some Ss to summarise the previous reading passage. 5 mins - summarise III. New lesson: Warm- up: - T organizes a game and asks Ss to play + T divides the class into 2 teams and asks Ss to find as many names of festivals as possible in 3minutes. Which team finds more names the other will be the winner. - T leads Ss to the new lesson. 4mins - play the game Before you listen: - T asks Ss to work in pairs to guess which of the activities on page 94 the Japanese often do on their New Year’s day. - T calls on some Ss to give their answers and write them on the board. T also asks Ss to add any other activities that they think the Japanese do at the New Year. T may play the tape recorder and ask Ss to repeat. + T presents or elicits the meanings of these words. 5mins - work in pairs - give the answers - listen and repeat and take notes. - note down the meanings While you listen: Task 1 - T asks a student to read out the requirement of the task one. - Before Ss listen and do the task, T gets them to read through the statements to understand them and underline key words. - T plays the tape 2 times and asks Ss to do the task. - Then T gets Ss to find a partner to check their answers with. - T checks the answers with the whole class. If many Ss cannot have the answers, T plays the tape one or two more times and pauses at the answers for them to catch.
