 1. Objectives : By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to:

 - Talk about the causes of population explosion, problems of population booms

and solutions to these problems.

 - Use appropriate language to talk about the population.

 2. Teaching aids:

 - blackboard, chalk, some pictures, handouts

 - textbook, lesson plan

 A. Aims
 1. Objectives : By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to:
	- Talk about the causes of population explosion, problems of population booms 
and solutions to these problems.
	- Use appropriate language to talk about the population.
 2. Teaching aids:

 B. Procedures

I. Organization
- T checks the number of students and asks Ss to make some class arrangement.
 II. Checking the old lesson
- T calls on 1 student to talk about what they think is necessary for controlling the population boom.
- T gives comments and mark.
 III. New lesson 
 1. Warm- up
Picture description
- T shows sts the following picture and asks them two questions.
+ What can you see in the picture?
+ What does the picture tell you?
- T elicits the answers from sts and gives comments.
- T introduces the topic of the speaking lesson: overpopulation
(picture)
 2. Task 1:
- T asks 1 student to read out the requirement of the task.
- T asks sts to read through the causes provided on page 83. T makes sure that sts understand the statement
- T gets sts to work in pairs to order the causes and explain their order.
- T goes around the class to check and offers help.
- T calls on some pairs to present their order and asks other pairs to give comments.
 3. Task 2
- T asks 1 student to read out the requirement of the task.
- T asks sts to read the useful language on page 83. T reminds sts that they should match the words or phrases on the left with the ones on the right.
-T asks sts to work in pairs to list the problems of poor and overpopulated countries.
- T calls on some sts to report their answers. 
- T elicits feedback from the class and gives final comments.

4. Task 3:
- T asks 1 student to read out the requirement of the task.
- T asks sts to read the useful language .

+ raise an awareness of the problems of overpopulation.

5. Task 4:
- T reminds sts that now they are going to give a short presentation of the problems of population explosion and the solutions to them.
- T encourages sts to use transition signals to make their presentation coherent.

- T gets sts to work in groups.
 -T goes around, controls, and helps 
- T calls on the representative of each group to present and asks others to comment.

- T summarises the main points of the lesson.
 V. Homework
- T asks sts to learn by heart all of the words and expressions used to talk about population explosion.
