B. PROCEDURES

Objectives : By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to: - Develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific ideas, identifying main ideas and identifying meaning in context. - Use the information they have read to discuss the illiteracy issues. 2. Teaching aids: - blackboard, chalk, some pictures, handouts - textbook, lesson plan B. Procedures Teacher’s activities Time Student’s activities I. Organization - T checks the number of students and asks Ss to make some class arrangement. II. Checking the old lesson - T calls one student to talk about what he/she learnt in the previous lesson. - T gives comment and marks. III. New lesson 1. Warm- up - T writes the word “Illiteracy” on the board. Then divides the class into groups of 10 sts and introduces the game. - When the time is up, T calls on th representative of each group to come to the board and write their list. Then T gets the whole class to count. Which group has more correct words wins the game - T leads sts to the new lesson from that. 2. Before you read - T gets sts to work in pairs and try to make sense of the picture on page 56, using the given prompts. them some qs. - T calls on some sts to describe the picture. - T checks with the class and asks sts to guess what they are going to read about. - T introduces the topic of the lesson. While you read * Setting the scene: You are going to read education in mountainous areas. While reading, do the tasks below. * Task 1: - T gets sts to read the passage silently and then do the task. T writes the given words on the board and asks sts to go back to the passage to locate and read around these phrases so that they can guess the meaning. - T checks sts’ understanding of the phrases by asking them to provide the Vietnamese meaning. - T checks the answers with the whole class and gives correct feedback. 1.
