 - textbook, lesson plan

 A. Aims 
 1. Objectives : By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to:
	- Develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific ideas, and identifying and correcting false statements.
	- Use the information they have read to discuss celebrations in their culture.
 2. Teaching aids:

I. Organization
- T checks the number of students and asks Ss to make some class arrangement.
 II. Checking the old lesson
- T calls one student to summarise the main points of unit 2
- T gives comment and marks.
 III. New lesson 
 1. Warm- up
The matching game
- T divides the class into small groups of 4 sts . 
- Then T distibutes these following handouts for sts to do the matching task in their own groups. Which group finishes it first and has all the correct answers will be the winner.
- T declares the winner and leads sts to the new lesson from that.

 2. Before you read
- T gets sts to work in pairs and try to make sense of the pictures on page 32.
- T gets sts to answer the questions on this page.
- T calls on some sts to answer the questions and give reasons for it.
- T checks with the class and asks sts to guess what they are going to read about.
- T pre-teaches some words:
+ lasting (adj): bền vững, lâu dài
+ mark (n): đánh dấu
+ milestone (n): mốc, ..
+ golden (adj): bằng vàng
- T helps sts to pronounce them correctly by modeling first and then asking them to repeat after.
- T presents the meanings of words.
 3. While you read
* Setting the scene: You are going to read about how American people to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. While reading, do the tasks below.
* Task 1:
- T instructs sts to use some strategies to do task 1.
- T asks sts to read the passage silently and then do task 1 individually.
- T goes around to help sts when necessary.
- T asks sts to exchange their answers to the others.
- T calls on some sts to write their answers on the board and tells them to explain their choices.
- T checks the answer with the whole class.

* Task 2
- T asks sts how to do this task and may instruct them to use some strategies to do the task.

- T asks sts to work in pairs to discuss the question in the textbook

- T summarises the main points of the lesson.

- T asks sts to learn by heart all of the new words and do the extra exercise in workbook.
