 1. Objectives : By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to:

 - Practise reciting the English poems they like.

 - Develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific ideas, skimming for general information, and guessing meaning in context.

 - Use the information they have read to discuss the topic.

 2. Teaching aids:

 - blackboard, chalk, some pictures, handouts

 - textbook, lesson plan

 B. PROCEDURES

 A. Aims 
 1. Objectives : By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to:
	- Practise reciting the English poems they like.
	- Develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific ideas, skimming for general information, and guessing meaning in context.
	- Use the information they have read to discuss the topic.
 2. Teaching aids:

	- textbook, lesson plan
 B. Procedures

I. Organization
- T checks the number of students and asks Ss to make some class arrangement.
 II. Checking the old lesson
- T calls 2 Ss to make a small dialogue on their experience for last summer holiday.
- T gives comment and marks.
 III. New lesson 
 1. Warm- up
- T lets sts play the competition game - “network” of the work “Friendship”
Friendship
- T checks the keys and leads sts to the new lesson from that.
 2. Before you read
- T asks the whole class to look at the picture on page 12 and asks them some qs.
1. What are the students doing?
2. How do they feel?
3. What does the picture tell you?
- T asks sts to work in pairs to read the poem on page 13 and answer the question “What do you think of the friend in the poem?”
- T calls on some sts to answer the question.
- T pre-teaches some words:
+ lasting (adj): bền vững, lâu dài
+ to be concerned with: quan tâm...
+ rumour (n): tin đồn
+ gosip (n): chuyện tầm phào
+ trust (n): sự tin tưởng
+ sorow (n): sự đau khổ
+ pursuit (n):đam mê
 3. While you read
* Setting the scene: You are going to read a passage about the qualities of a long lasting friendship. While reading, do the tasks below.
* Task 1:
- T writes the words on board and instructs sts to read the passage quickly and then stop at the lines that contain the words to get their meaning.
- T checks sts’ understanding by asking them to provide the Vietnamese meaning.
- T instructs sts to use some strategies to do task 1.
- T asks sts to work individually to do the task.
- T goes around to help sts when necessary.
- T asks sts to exchange their answers to the others.
- T asks sts for the answers and tells them to explain their choices.

* Task 2
- T gets sts do the task

4. After you read
- T asks sts to work in pairs to discuss the question in the textbook
- T goes around to help sts when necessary.
- T asks sts to share their ideas
- T calls on some sts to report their ideas to the clas.
- T gives feedback
 IV. Consolidation
- T summarises the main points of the lesson.
 V. Homework
- T asks sts to learn by heart all of the new words and do the extra exercise in workbook.
