Lesson 5: infinitive and gerund
 A. Aims 
 1. Objectives : By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to:
	- Use infinitives with “to” or without “to” appropriately in contexts.
- Use gerunds appropriately in contexts.
 2. Teaching aids:

 I. Organization
- T checks the number of students and asks Ss to make some class arrangement.
 II. Checking the old lesson
- T calls on one student to go to the board and asks some questions about him/her.
- T gives comments and marks.
 III. New lesson

- T divides the class into 2 groups, instructs them how to play the game.

 2. Grammar : 
a. Infinitive
* Presentation
- T writes some examples on the board and underline the form of the verb with “to ” 
Eg: + I agree to go out with him.
 + She wants to become a doctor..
- T asks sts to give comment on the use of “to inf”. 
- T reviews the verbs followed by “to inf” in the examples quickly.
Form: To V
Use: “To inf” is used in these cases:
+ V + to V
Eg: She agreed to love me.
+ V + what/where/ when.... + to V
Eg: I know what to do .
+ V + O + to V
Eg: She asks me to do this work.
+ adj (of sb/for sb) + to V
Eg: It’s nice to meet you.
+ too adj + to V/ adj enough + to V
Eg: She is too young to go to school
+ N + to V
Eg: She goes to school to learn.
 * Practice (handouts)
b. Gerund
- T writes some examples on the board and underline the “gerund”
Eg: + I hate doing my homework.
 + She likes watching TV.
- T asks sts to give comment on the use of “gerund” in these examples. 
- T reviews the verbs followed by “gerund” in the examples quickly.
Form: Ving
Use: Gerund is used in these cases:
+ As subject of the sentence.
Eg: Swimming is a good exercise.
+ As object of the verb.
Eg: I like watching TV.
+ As complement of “be”
Eg: My passion is studying.
+ After preposition
Eg:She is interested in learning English
 * Practice (handouts)
 IV. Consolidation
- T summarises the main points of 
the lesson.
 V. Homework
- T asks sts to do the extra exercises in the workbook.
