 Aims: Educate Ss to appropriate about the celebrations in Vietnam and on the world.

 - Guides Ss to know about the celebrations in Viet Nam exactly.

 - Develop such reading micro-skill as scanning for special ideas and skimming for general information.

 - Use the information they have read to discuss and practice the tasks.

 * Lexical items: Words or phrases to related reading.

 * Skills: Reading for gist and for specific information.

II. METHOD: Integrated, mainly communication.

III. TEACHING AIDS: Cassette, tape, textbook, lesson plan.

I. OBJECTIVES
 Aims: Educate Ss to appropriate about the celebrations in Vietnam and on the world. 
 - Guides Ss to know about the celebrations in Viet Nam exactly.

 - Use the information they have read to discuss and practice the tasks.
 * Lexical items: Words or phrases to related reading.
 * Skills: Reading for gist and for specific information.

1. Warm-up 
- Asks Ss to work in pairs and look at the picture and discuss the questions.
1. What time of the year is it?
2. What are the people in the picture doing?
3. What else do you see in the picture?
* Introduce the new lesson:
Warm-up 
- Listen and prepare.
- Answer freely.
- Listen.
2. Before you read 
- Gives Ss to read the new words and word phrases then explain the meaning.
Lunar New year: (Tết âm lịch)
To fall between... and ...: (rơi vào khoảng thời gian từ .... đến...)
To spread: (kéo dài)
To be full of: (đầy nhiều)
Candied fruit: (mứt)
Positive comment: (những lời nói tốt đẹp)
- Asks Ss to read after the teacher some times.
- Calls on some Ss to read aloud the words and phrases
- Asks Ss to make sentences with the above words to check their understanding at home.
- Asks Ss to work in pairs. Tell your partner which of these activities you enjoy doing most at Tet. Are there any other things you like doing?
- Asks Ss to read the word phrases careful to understand them.
- Guides Ss to choose these activities you like doing most at Tet and other things.
Before Tet

- Walks around the class to help when necessary
- Asks Ss to compare their answers with friends.
- Calls some Ss to read their answers in front of the class.
- Give correct answers.
Before Tet:
1) making Banh Chung.
2) decorating the house

Before you read 
- Copy down
- Read in chorus and individually.
- Read aloud the words
- Put sentences with the above words at home.
- Work in pairs. Tell your partner which of these activities you enjoy doing most at Tet. Are there any other things you like doing?
- Read the word phrases careful to understand them.
- Compare the answers with friends.
- Write the correct answers.
New Year Eve:

3.While you read
Setting the scene:
You are going to read a passage about Tet holiday in Vietnam. While you are reading, do the tasks in the textbook.
Task 1
* Intruction: Find the meaning of the words. You can also use your dictionary.
- Write these words on the board.
Grand, banner, sugared apples, agrarian, pray, excitement.
- Guides Ss to read the passage quickly and stop at the lines that contain these words to guess their meaning.
- Asks Ss to guess the meaning of the words based on the contexts in the sentences. For example: grand (line 1, first paragraph) main holiday, important.
Pray:(line 6, last paragraph) pagoda, happy year.
- Walks around the class to help when necessary
- Asks Ss to compare their meaning with friends.
- Calls some Ss to read their words and meaning in front of the class.
- Give correct answers.
While you read
- Listen.
Task 1
- Find the meaning of the words. You can also use your dictionary.
- Copy down.
- Read the passage quickly and guess the meaning.
- Compare the meanings with friends.
- Write the correct answers.
Grand: trọng đại, hoành tráng
Banner: biểu ngữ, băng rôn
Sugared apples: táo tẩm đường
Agrarian: thuộc về nông nhiệp

*Instruction: You are going to read the passage and decide whether the statements are true or false.
- Guides Ss to use some strategies to do the task:.
- Asks Ss to read carefully sentences to understand the contents.
- First, quickly read through the statements to get an idea about the topic.
- Read the statements more carefully. Underline the key words to understand the main point.
- Asks Ss to compare their answers with friends .
- Walks around the class to help when necessary.
- Calls Ss to answer the sentences in front of the class.
- Corrected answers.
Task 2 
- Read the passage and decide whether the statements are true or false.
- Read carefully sentences to understand the contents

- Guides Ss to make some strategies in task 2
- Asks Ss to read carefully questions to understand them.
- Asks Ss to answer the questions
- Asks Ss to read scan the text again and underline the key words to decide what information they need to find in the text to answer the questions.
- Walks around the class to help when necessary.
- Asks Ss to compare their answers with friends.
- Calls Some Ss to read their answers in front of the class.
- Gives correct answers:

2) Tet’s preparations and celebrations used to be spread over months (line 1 – 2, paragraph 2).
3) They are decorated with colourd lights and red banner (line 3 – 4, paragraph 2).
4) They buy gifts, clean and decorate their houses and cook traditional foods (line 4-5, par 2)
5) It is made from stricky rice, green beans and fatty pork(line 5-6 paragraph 3 )
6) Mut is candied fruit (line 6-7 paragraph 3)
7) Visiting friends and other family members, exchanging wishes, going to the pagoda, playing games .. (last paragraph)
