Teaching aids: - textbook - Handouts - chalk - cards Techniques : - skill-based ( listening, speaking) Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. warm-up (7’) Games: Spontaneous talks -Put the class into groups of four. - give each group a list of leisure activities. Each activity is written on a piece of paper and then folded so that it cannot be seen. - Within groups, SS take turns to choose a topic and then talk about it spontaneously for one minute. - Remind SS that they do not need to care about accuracy. -After SS have finished their spontaneous talk within groups , elicit which topic they chose, and whether they like doing it in their free time and why. Suggested leisure activities ( The assigned topic for each group does not need to be the same.) Homework (1’) Activity 1:Finding thing in common & differences -Tell SS to write one leisure activity they enjoy doing and one they are not interested in down on a piece of paper. -Get SS to stand up and move around the class to ask questions to find those who have the same interests. - Give some examples T:I enjoy swimming in my free time. Do you?/ what (How ) about you? S1: Me too./ That’s the same for me. / So do I S2: Really? / Oh, that’s interesting. / Oh , I’m the opposite. I’d rather read novels. -Make sure SS use English to communicate. Activity 2: group discussion -Based on the conversations in activity 1, group SS who have the same hobbies. -Ask SS to discuss why they are interested in such things. - go around to monitor the class and give help if necessary - call on some group representatives to introduce the hobbies they have in common and report the reasons for such interests. Listening: - Have SS listen to a talk about David’s hobby and complete the sentences below (Appendix ) - Call on SS to give answers. - invite class opinions and give feedback. Sentence Making - have SS make five sentences using would rather, prefer, enjoy, dislike, and engrossed respectively.
