Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period 109 : Preparation date : 23/3/2008 Unit 13 : Lesson : writing Aims : By the end of the lesson, the students are able to describe holiday activities. By the end of the lesson, the students are able to organize and write about holiday activities. IV- Teaching aids: - textbook - handouts - Sheets of paper - chalk and board Techniques : writing-based Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. warm-up (7’) Games: Spot the differences - Put SS into small groups of six. -Give 3 students in each group a picture to the other 3 in the group. ( appendix) -Tell SS not to show their picture to the other 3 in to the group -Tell SS there are 5 differences in the tow pictures, and ask them to make question or talk to the other 3 in their group to find out the differences. -The first group to find all the differences wins the game. -Ask SS : what are the people in the pictures doing ? -Have you ever joined/ attended a holiday activity somewhere? -Imagine you had a pen pal and you would like to share your experience with him/her. What would you do? Transition:- Yes, and today we will practice writing about holiday activities to share our experience with other people. - write down on the board: Unit13: Writing about Holiday Activities 2. Pre- writing (10’) Teaching new words: - use pictures and explanations to present some new words - Read the words one by one and ask Sts to repeat. Checking Vocabulary - Rub out one or some the words and ask Sts to read them all again. - Continue until no word is left on the board Parade ( n) Grab (n) Float (n,v) duck into (exp) Chalk and board 3. while-writing (20’) Activity 1: Recognize Verb Forms:(tack a, p. 186) - Tell SS to underline the verb forms in the letter. - Elicit from SS to organization of and the tenses used in the report about the holiday. Expected answers: It is organization in chronological/ time order. The tenses used are past simple, past progressive and past perfect. -Ask SS to distinguish between these tenses and how they are used in a report. Activity2:Fill in a Table - Ask SS to read the letter and complete the table about the holiday with suitable information. - Tell SS to compare answers with a partner and then .Check with the class. Post-writing (10’) Peer correction -Ask one or tow students to write their letters on the board for the class to check together. -Tell the class to read the letters and give correction if necessary. -Invite SS to give comments on their friends’ writings. -Give feedback and comments. 5.Homework Writing -Ask SS to write about a holiday activity in their hometown textbook
