Teaching aids: - textbook - Handouts - chalk - cards Techniques : - skill-based ( listening, speaking) Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. warm-up (7’) Games: Describing Pictures -Ask SS to work in small groups. - Show SS a picture of “bungee Jumping” ( Appendix 1) -Tell the groups to write down as many adjectives as possible about the activity. -Collect the groups’ pieces of paper, read the adjectives and check with the class . -The group with the most adjectives wins the game. -Declare the winner -Write down on the board the same adjectives from different groups , and some opposite ones if any. -Ask SS : what does it mean when you all use these same adjectives? ( expected: We all agree that(adjective)) And what does it mean when some of you use this adjective while the others use the opposite to describe the activity? (expected : That means we disagree with each other about that.) Transition : -What do you say to expressing agreement or disagreement? Today we will practice expressing agreement and disagreement and how to explain reasons. -Write down on the board : Unit 13 : Speaking -Handouts 2. Pre- Speaking (7’) 1.Matching pictures with holiday activities (task a, p. 183- 184) -Ask SS to study the pictures and match them with the holiday activities. -Tell SS to compare answers in pairs. -Go over the answers which the whole class. 2. Introducing useful language ( tack b, p.184) -Elicit and introduce expressions of agreement and disagreement and the langue used to explain reasons. Useful Expressions: * Agreement: -That’s true. I completely agree with you. - I can’t agree with you more. -Yeah, you’ re right. - Yes, I think so , too. * Disagreement -I don’t quite agree with you because -That’ not the way I see it. Homework (1’) Activity 1: talking about holiday activities (tack c, p. 185) -Tell SS to work in small groups, discuss the positive and negative aspects of some holiday activities, and express their agreement or disagreement with their partners, plus explanations of reasons. -Tell SS they can use the phrases suggested in the box and ideas of their own. -Work with a student to model an example. -Suggest some holiday activities around the world for SS to express their opinions about. -Go around to monitor and jot down errors for correction later. Activity 2: Find and Match -Put SS into groups of six. -Prepare 4 sets of picture cards, tow sets about the same holiday activity. One of the tow contains a check meaning ‘enjoy’ the other a cross meaning ‘ not enjoy or against ’. -Give each student a card. Make sure SS in each group has 3 different cards so that they all make up 3 different pairs. -Tell SS not to show their card to their friends , but make questions to find the person who goes on the same holiday and who has the same opinion about the holiday and match together. -Go around to control and monitor unobtrusively. - call on some students to report about their pairs. Tell the other students with the same cards to express their agreement, and those with a different card to express their disagreement with explanations. -Give feedback and comments. Writing about themselves: - Ask SS to work in pairs and write a few sentences about themselves and their friends concerning entertainment activities. -Tell Ss they can use the prompts given to help them Most of us...
