Warm up (10 mins) Game: Who is the best!! - Divide class into 4 groups (each side forms a group). - Give instruction: You will get a blank paper A3 Your task is to work in group, have a look at a show of 10 pictures (one by one in a time) and write down the right names of the sports described in pictures on given papers After having a look, one representative will show the answers Which group has most correct answers and arrange them in the right order will be the winner Check the students’ answers - Lead in the topic: As you know, these are the sports that have been played in the Asian Games. Today we will study some more information about this famous sports event - the Asian Games. Let’s look at the table page 139 and tell me: What kind of information do we have in the table? Expected answer: the information in the table is about the game number, the host countries, the holding year, and the number of sports of Asian Games. - Confirm the answer and say let’s move to Task 1 - Work in 4 groups - Write the names of sports in the pictures in the correct spelling and the right order 2. Task 1: - Ask students the information of the 1st Asian Games to make a model for practicing: Now study the table quickly and answer my questions: Where and when were the 1st Asian Games held? How many countries took part in the Games How many sports were there at the Games? - Write the questions on the board first then fill the students answers in respond to the questions - Underline the key words that students can replace them to make questions or base on to give answer. - Divide the class into 4 groups and divide the table into 4 parts Ask group 1 to do part 1 sentences from 2 to 4 Ask group 2 to do part 2 sentences from 5 to 8 Ask group 3 to do part 3 sentences from 9 to 12 Ask group 4 to do part 4 sentences from 13 to 15 - Give students 5 minutes to do the task - Ask students to work in pairs - Call 4 pairs in 4 groups to stand in front of class and talk about the 3rd, 8th, 11th, 15th. - Give feedback - Answer the questions (Ss can look at the book) - Follow the model written in the board - Receive the handouts and practice following the given model - Present their Speaking 3. Task 2: - Ask students to look at the table page 140 read out loud the name of sports in the box, check if there are any new words. - Ask them to answer the questions: “How many medals did the Vietnamese athletes win in bodybuilding?” “What kinds of medals did they win?” What’s about in Billiards, did the Vietnamese athletes win any medal? Expected answers: In bodybuilding the Vietnamese athletes won 2 medals One gold medal and one bronze medal As we can see in the table, in billiards, the Vietnamese athletes won one gold medal and one silver medal - Write the model conversation on the board so that students can follow - Ask students to work in pairs and talk about at least two sport events - Give them 5 minutes to practice - Call 4 pairs to perform the task in front of class. - Give feedback - Students answer the questions - Say the sentence following the form - Practice with friends in the same group - Present their sentences Homework - Ask students to practice speaking again and prepare for the next lesson Extra activity - Prepare a box of 8 questions about the famous sport events the Asian Games.
