 Unit 5 : Competitions
Có thể chia câu tường thuật làm các loại sau:
Loại 1:
S +V + O +(not ) TO INF. 
CÁC ĐỘNG TỪ DÙNG TRONG LOẠI NÀY LÀ :
Invite (mời ), ask ,tell,  propose ( đề nghị ), urge (thúc hối ), warn ( cảnh báo ), order ( ra lệnh ), beg ( van xin ), remind ( nhắc nhở), advise, force, encourage ( khuyến khích), allow...
Ví dụ :"please wait for me" ( hãy chờ tôi )
--> He asked /told me to wait for him ( anh ấy bảo tôi chờ anh ấy ) 
Ví dụ:'would you mind opening the door?' ( xin vui lòng mở cửa )
--> She asked me to open the door ( cô ấy bảo tôi mở cửa)
Ví dụ:  "we'll visit you "    ( chúng tôi sẽ thăm bạn )
--> She promised to visit us ( cô ấy hứa thăm chúng tôi )
Ví dụ:let me give you a hand
--> He offered to give me a hand ( anh ấy đề nghị được giúp tôi một tay )
Nếu bảo ai không làm chuyện gì ,thì đặt NOT trước to inf .
Ví dụ:"you mustn't come home late"   (con không được về nhà trễ nhé )
--> My mother asked me not to come home late  ( mẹ tôi bảo tôi không được về nhà trễ)
Ví dụ:  "Don't stay up late" ( đừng thức khuya nhé )
--> She reminded me not to stay up late  ( cô ấy nhắc nhỡ tôi không thức khuya )
Loại 2:
S +V + To  Inf. 
CÁC ĐỘNG TỪ DÙNG TRONG LOẠI NÀY LÀ :
Offer (đề nghị giúp đỡ), promise (hứa), refuse (từ chối), agree (đồng ý , threaten ( đe dọa ), agree, hope, voluteer ( tình nguyện ), expect.....
lưu ý:
Khi tường thuật lại câu thì phải giảm thì
Nguyên tắc giảm thì như sau
Lấy động từ gần chủ từ nhất giảm xuống một cột
ví dụ :
I will go .
Động từ will gần chủ từ nhất nên lấy will giảm xuống một cột thành -> would
Ta có : I would go .
Ngoài ra thời gian cũng phải giảm xuống :
yesterday-->the day before
now-->then
tonight-->that night
tomorrow-->the next day/the day after/the following day
Nơi chốn cũng giảm như sau:
here-->there
this-->that
these-->those

 DẠNG NÂNG CAO: 
S + V +VING 
Chúng ta sử dụng VING (danh động từ) sau các động từ tường thuật sau đây:
Có thể chia làm 2 loại :
I) Loại : V + VING ( không có túc từ hay giới từ ở giữa )
Bao gồm các động từ sau:
Advise ( khuyên ) , suggest ( đề nghị ), Admit ( thú nhận )....
Ví dụ: shall we go for a swim ?  ( chúng ta cùng đi bơi nhé )
-->She suggested going for a swim  ( cô ấy đề nghị đi bơi )
Ví dụ:I know I am wrong
-->He admitted being wrong ( anh ta thú nhận là mình sai )
II) Loại :V ( sb ) + giới từ + VING :
1.insist on ( nài nĩ ,khăng khăng )
Ví dụ: "please come on! lend me some money" said the woman.
-->The woman insisted on lending me some money ( người đàn bà khăng khăng cho tôi mượn tiền )
2.Dream of (mơ về)
Ví dụ:I desperately want to become a doctor
-->He dreamed of becoming a doctor ( Anh ta mơ thành bác sĩ )
3.Apologize to ( sb )for (xin lỗi về)
Ví dụ: "sorry, I'm late"
-->The man apologized to ( me ) for being late
Ví dụ: "you've stolen my bicycle!"
-->He accused me of having stolen his bicycle ( anh ta buộc tội tôi đã ăn cắp xe đạp của anh ta )
5.Prevent sb from (ngăn không cho ai làm gì   )
Ví dụ:" I can't let you use the phone"
-->My mother prevented me from using the phone ( Mẹ tôi không cho tôi dùng điện thoại )
6.Congratulate sb on ( chúc mừng ai về việc gì )
7. Blame sb for ( đổ lỗi ai về việc gì )
Blame sth on sb ( đổ tội gì cho ai )
8.Warn sb against ( cảnh báo ai không nên làm điều gì ) - lưu ý mẫu này không dùng not
"Don't swim too far !"
He warned me against swimming too far. ( anh ta cảnh báo tôi đừng bơi quá xa )
= He warned me not to swim too far
9.Thank sb for ( cám ơn ai về việc gì )

Làm sao biết khi nào có sb đi sau động từ tường thuật, khi nào không ?
ĐÁP :
Ta dịch câu, nếu thấy chủ từ thực hiện luôn hành động thứ hai thì ta KHÔNG DÙNG TÚC TỪ
Ngược lại nếu ta dịch thấy chủ từ tác động lên người khác để người đó thực hiện hành động thì ta phải DÙNG TÚC TỪ
Ví dụ :
Dịch ra là : Anh ta hứa làm điều đó
Ta thấy anh ta hứa và cũng chính anh ta làm nên không dùng túc từ :
He promised to do that
Dịch : Anh ta khuyên tôi học chăm
Ta thấy anh ta khuyên tôi, nhưng tôi phải học chứ không phải anh ta, nên phải dùng túc từ :
He advised me to study hard.

Grammar point :
1, Sở hữu cách 
a , danh từ số đơn đổi ra sở hữu cách bằng cách thêm 's :
the boy's name = the name of the boy 
b, Danh từ số nhiều 
* không tậnc ùng là S khi đổi sang sở hữu cách ta thêm 's 
EX: the children's toys = the toys of the children
# Tận cùng là S khi chuyển sang sở hữu cách ta chỉ thêm '
EX: the girls' doll = the dolls of the girls
c, Danh từ ghép và nhóm danh từ ta chỉ thêm 's vào danh từ chỉ vật chủ cuối cùng thôi 
EX: my-father-in-law's property 
d; Khi một vật thuộc sở hữu chung nhỉều vật chủ ta chỉ thêm 's vào danht ừ chỉ vật chủ cuối cùng mà thôi 
EX: tom and Mary's bicycle stands against the wall 
e, Nếu vật thuộc riêng từ chủ sở hữu ta phải thêm 's cho từng danh từ chỉ vật chủ 
EX: Tom's and mary 's bicycles are different in colour 
2, Non-living things :
* danh từ địa lý :
EX: America ‘s policy

* Từ chỉ thời gian 
A day ‘s work

* từ chỉ khoảng cách

3, Các nhóm từ ngữ (Fixed expression )
EX : For religion’s sake : vì tôn giáo
For goodness’ sake : vì lòng tốt
To one’s heart ‘s content :
To my heart’s content : làm tôi hả dạ 
To have at one’s fingers’end : thông thạo
g, Sử hữu cách ('s ) được dùng cách cách khác ngoài ý sở hữu 
Regular use : ( chỉ sự thường dùng ) 
EX: father ‘s chair ( the chair father usually sits on )
* action 
• EX: scott’s journey ( the journey scott made )
* Purpose
• EX: A girls ‘s school ( a school for girl )
*Characteristics
• EX: Tom’s stammer ( tom has a stammer)
Các bạn có biết trong quá trình học tiếng Anh , chúng ta hầu như không để ý đến phần trọng âm của từ_ mà phần này thi đại học đấy! Do vậy Mình sẽ giới thiệu một số qui tắc cho các bạn cùng tham khảo:
Đa số những từ 2 âm tiết có trọng âm ở âm tiết đầu , nhất là khi tận cùng bằng : er, or, y, ow, ance, ent , en, on.
Ex: ciment/ si'ment/: ximăng  event /i'vent/: sự kiện.
Đa số những từ có 3 âm tiết có trọng âm ở âm tiết đầu , nhất là khi tận cùng là :ary, erty, ity, oyr
Đa số những động từ có 2 âm tiết , trọng âm nằm ở âm tiết thứ 2
Ex: repeat / ri'pi:t/ :nhắc lại
Trọng âm trước những vần sau đây: -cial, -tial, -cion, -sion, -tion,-ience,-ient,-cian ,-tious,-cious, -xious  
Ex:  'special, 'dicussion, 'nation, poli'tician( chính trị gia)
Trọng âm trước những vần sau: -ic, -ical, -ian,-ior, -iour,-ity,-ory, -uty, -eous,-ious,-ular,-ive
Ex: 'regular, expensive/ isk'pensive/, 'injury.
Danh từ chỉ cácc môn học có trọng âm cách âm tiết cuối 1 âm tiết 
Ex: ge'ology, bi'ology
Từ có tận cùng bằng -ate, -ite, -ude,-ute có trọng âm cách âm tiết cuối 1 âm tiết
Ex: institute / 'institju/ (viện)
Đa số danh từ ghép có trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết đầu
raincoat /'reinkuot/ :áo mưa

CÂU ĐIỀU KIỆN
Chào các em ! từ lớp 9 các em đã bắt đầu học về câu điều kiện, sau đó lên cấp 3 mỗi năm các em đều học lại cấu trúc này nhưng chương trình càng lúc càng nâng cao. Trong phần này sẽ được chia làm 2 cấp độ : cấp độ cơ bản và cấp độ nâng cao. Các em nhất thiết phải học theo thứ tự, chỉ khi nào nắm vững cấp cơ bản thì mới học phần nâng cao, nếu không sẽ bị rối và không hiểu được bài.
Cấp độ cơ bản
Loại 1:
Công thức :
IF S   + V (hiện tại) , S + WILL ( CAN, MAY) + V (nguyên mẫu)
Cách dùng:
Chỉ sự việc có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai.
Ví dụ:
If it is sunny, I will go fishing.  ( nếu trời nắng, tôi sẽ đi câu) 
Loại 2:
Công thức :
IF S   + V (quá khứ) , S + WOULD ( COULD, MIGHT ) + V (nguyên mẫu)
( be luôn dùng were dù chủ từ số ít hay nhiều )
Cách dùng:
Chỉ sự việc không thể hoặc khó có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai. 
Ví dụ:
If I were you, I would go abroad. ( nếu tôi là bạn, tôi sẽ đi nước ngoài) 
Chuyện này không thể xảy ra được vì tôi đâu thể nào biến thành bạn được.
Loại 3:
Công thức :
IF S   +HAD +P.P , S + WOULD ( COULD, MIGHT ) HAVE + P.P
Cách dùng:
Chỉ sự việc đã không xảy ra ở quá khứ.
Ví dụ:
If I hadn’t been absent yesterday, I would have met him. ( nếu hôm qua tôi không vắng mặt thì tôi đã gặp anh ta rồi) => nhưng thực sự tôi đã vắng mặt
LƯU Ý:
+ Unless = if  not : trừ phi
+ Bên mệnh đề có if, chữ had trong loại 3, chữ were trong loại 2 và chữ should trong loại 1 có thể đem ra đầu câu thế cho if.
( chữ should đôi khi có thể dùng trong loại 1 với nghĩa làm cho câu mơ hồ hơn)
Ví dụ:
- If he should call, . ( nếu mà anh ta có gọi,     ) => không biết có gọi hay không
= Should he call,. ( nếu mà anh ta có gọi,      ) 
- If I were you, 
= Were I you, . 
- If she had gone there, ..
= Had she gone there,..

Các dạng bài tập về câu điều kiện (cấp độ cơn bản)
1)     Dạng chia động từ:
Ở cấp độ cơ bản thông thường người ta chia một vế cho mình rồi nên các em chỉ việc quan sát xem đó là loại mấy mà áp dụng công thức cho đúng.
Ví dụ:
If I meet him, I (give) him this book.
Nhìn thấy câu đề cho bên if là thì hiện tại nên ta biết đó là loại 1 nên ta chia loại 1:
If I meet him, I will give him this book.
Cũng có trường hợp hơi khó hơn là người ta sẽ đóng ngoặc cả hai bên. Trong trường hợp này trước tiên các em xem sự việc có phải xảy ra ở quá khứ không, Nếu phải thì chia loại 3, nếu không có dấu hiệu nào của quá khứ thì các em phải dịch nghĩa : nếu thấy không có khả năng hoặc khó có khả năng xảy ra thì dùng loại 2, nếu có khả năng xảy ra thì dùng loại 1.
Ví dụ:
If he (go) there yesterday, he (meet) her.
Thấy có dấu hiệu của quá khứ (yesterday) nên ta chia loại 3:
If he had gone there yesterday, he would have met her.
I (go) there if I (be) you.
Không có dấu hiệu quá khứ nên ta dịch nghĩa: ...nếu tôi là bạn => chuyện không thể xảy ra nên dùng loại 2:
I would go there if I were you.
2)     Dạng viết lại câu dùng IF:
Dạng này người ta sẽ cho 2 câu riêng biệt hoặc nối với nhau bằng các chữ như : so = that’s why (vì thế), because ( bởi vì ) 
Đối với dạng này nếu các em thấy :
-        Cả 2 câu đều chia thì tương lai thì dùng loại 1 (không phủ định) 
-        Một bên hiện tại, một bên tương lai / hiện tại thì dùng loại 2 (phủ định)
-        Nếu có quá khứ trong đó thì dùng loại 3 (phủ định)
-        Ghi chú:
-        Phủ định là câu đề có not thì ta dùng không có not và ngược lại
-        Nếu có because thì để if ngay vị trí because 
-        Nếu có so, that’s why thì để if ngược với vị trí của chúng.
-         
Ví dụ:
I will go there. I will buy you a dog.
=> If I go there, I will buy you a dog.
I can’t go out because it is raining.
=> If it weren’t raining, I could go out. ( người ta can thì mình dùng, không đổi thành will )
3)     Dạng viết lại câu đổi từ câu có if sang dùng unless:
Unless sẽ thế vào chỗ chữ if, bỏ not, vế kia giữ nguyên. 
Ví dụ:
If you don’t speak loudly, he won’t hear.
Unless.
=> Unless you speak loudly, he won’t hear.
