A/ Not only but also được dùng như một cặp để nối hai thực thể giống nhau.
S + V + not only +but (also) .
Ex1: Tom is not only handsome but also talented.
Mary plays not only the guitar but also the piano.
S + not only + V +but (also) + V
Ex 2: She not only plays violent but also composes music.
He not only reads a newspaper but also listen to the radio everyday.
B/ Both and được dùng như một cặp để nối hai thực thể giống nhau.
S + V + both and
Ex 1: Tom is both talented and handsome.
S + both + V + and + V
Ex2: She both plays violin and composes music.
• Note:
- Hai chủ ngữ được nối bởi both.and thì động từ luôn luôn chia ở số nhiều.
- Khi hai chủ ngữ được nối bởi not only .but also, either or, neither nor thì động từ chia phù hợp với chủ ngữ gần nó nhất.
Example:

3/ Not only the teacher but also the student here.
