Unit 1:DESCRIBING PEOPLE
A: What does he look like ?/ What is he like ?/What type of person do you like ?

Useful words and expressions:
1.Physical characteristics ( hình dáng )( appearance)
Build : plump(bụ bẫm), slim(mảnh mai) , well- built(cân đối,nam), fat, thin,overweight,skinny(gầy trơ xương)
Ex.She is slim./ He is a well-built person/ She is a woman of slim build.
Height : tall , short , medium, medium height =average height.
Ex He is of medium height./ She is tall.
Face : thin , long,round , chubby(mũm mĩm ) , oval , square
 Ex.She has a thin face. / Her face is thin.
Forehead : broad , high , swelling (trán dô). Ex.He has a high forehead.
Nose :flat, straight , crooked ,broken,long,turned-up (mũi hỉnh).
Ex. He has a turned-up nose.
Hairstyle : short,long, straight ,wavy , curly , a crew cut (tóc đinh ),thinning (thưa), bald(hói), in a bun(búi), neat(gọn gàng) 
Ex.He is bald ( hói đầu)with freckles ( tàn nhang )
Ex.He is bald./Her hair is shrort=she has short hair.
 Hair color : Black , blonde , dark , red –brown , grey (hoa râm), white,dyed,light.
Eyes : clear , black , brown . blue , green ,grey sharp , piercing , expressive
Lips : thin , thick ( môi dày ) Ex> She has full lips.
Chin : double(có ngấn), cleft, pointed(nhọn)(have)
Ex.She has a cleft chin.
Others features : broad shouldered , slim hipped (eo thon), dimples(lúm đồng tiền) , beard (râu), moustache (ria mép) , wrinkles(nếp nhăn)..
Complexion : fair , dark-skinned(ngăm) , suntanned (rám nắng) , soft , black,pale,
General appearance : handsome ( nam ), pretty ( nữ) , charming ,good looking ,plain,
Dress: elegant (thanh lịch), well – dressed , scruffy(luộm thuộm) casual(tùy tiện),fashionable.( hợp thời trang) ,conservative (kín đáo)
Ex.He always wears casual clothes./ She is always well-dressed./scruffy.
Ex.She looks lively with green eyes and the two dimples (má lúm đ.tiền)on her checks

I) Lan is my best friend .She is 17 years old .she lives in HCM City. We’ve been friends when we went on a picnic to ÑamSen on a Tet holiday 1 year ago .She is beautiful with long black hair, a straight nose and a square face. She is humorous and honest. She always helps me when I had any difficulty. We usually go shopping together and we often tell many funny stories as well. We are very happy together.
II) . Of all my friends , Hoa is the one I like best . she is of my age 17.She was born on 27 th August 1994 in Ho Chi Minh City. 
 She is not very tall or slim . She looks very pretty with big brown eyes , black straight hair and the two dimples on her checks. She has a fair complexion that makes her look very charming .Hoa is really my best friend because she often helps me when I’m in difficulties and need a helping hand. Contrary to me , Hoa’s especially good at Maths . She is eager to learn Maths (ham học toán ) , she can spend all day learning Maths . That’s why she has just won the fist international prize in Maths . Studiousness and constancy make her successful . Hoa has the same taste in music as me and she likes to listen to music in her free time . In addition , Hoa has a great sense of humour and she’s always making me laugh . We get on very well together , although occasionally we’ve had arguments – usually about silly little things. ..
 Frankly speaking , I have great admiration for Hoa’s intellectual ability and her behaviour towards surrounding people. I’ve learnt a lot from her and I’m proud of being her friend .
