Lead to the lesson: 
In today’s reading, we’ll get to know about the preparation and the activities of a contest.
- Teach some words:

When you have a chance to go abroad to study, you will need a person to help you financially. What do you called this person?

Task 1. Matching.
 - Ask Ss to match the words or phrases on the left with their definitions on the right. 
- Let Ss work in pairs to find the words in the text.
- Ask if they know the meaning of the words.
- Have Ss to match.
- Call on some Ss to read aloud the definition of each word.

Task 2. Answer the questions.
Let Ss to work in groups. Read the passage and answer the questions.
Then let them play the game: Lucky numbers
Answer. 
The representatives of three classes of the ( writer’s) school took part in the annual final English Competition last Satuday.
Its aim was to stimulate the spirit of learning English among students.
The Student’s Parents Society sponsored the competition.
They had to complete five activities in all. On completion of each activity , they had to answer the questions in the worksheets within 2 minutes.
They had to observe and score the students’ performance. The maximum score for each activity was 15. At the end of the competition they would announce the total score of each group. The group that got the highest score would be the winner.
The winner woul be awarded a set of CDs for studying English and an Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary. 
Task 3. sentence completion.
Ask Ss to read the paragraph 3 again and complete the senences individually.
Tell Ss to compare the answers with a friend.
Call on some Ss to read aloud the sentences.
In activity 5, Hung was unable to recite / complete the poem ( because he could not remenber the last sentence).
Having achieved the highest score, group B became the winner of the competition.
 Group C lost the game because they just got 60 points.
Nga encouraged her group by saying “ for me the most important thing was our participation in the competition an the enjoyment we had from it”. 
 - Let Ss to take part in a translation competition.
Ask Ss to work in groups , tell each S in each group to take out a piece of paper and translate the poem that Hung recited at the competition at the annual final English competition.
Tell Ss of each group to choose the best translation.
The winner is the group who finishes fastest and has the best translation.
Help Ss with the meanings of some new words: + patter: r¬i lép ®ép
+ windowpane: khung cöa kÝnh
Ask Ss to read out their translation and let Ss give comment.
Give awards for the best group.
Suggested translation:

Task 3. Guessing game
Ask Ss to work in groups 
Tell each S in each group to talk about a competition or a contest they have recently joined or seen on TV in 6’
Ask each group to choose the best S to take part in the game.
A representative of each group will stand in front of the class an tell about the competition or contest by using the suggestions given gradually. Other groups have to listen and give the name of the competition/ contest.
The group who gives the correct answer first will get one mark.
Desclare the winner.

How did the rate increase from 1998-2007 in the Midlands?
Did the rate increase or decline in the Highlands rom 1998 –2004? How?
