_ Introduce the situation of the lesson.

_ Ask ss to write a description of the trends in energy consumption in the year 2005 in highland based on the chart.
_ Go around the class to check ss’ work.

Suggested writing:
The chart shows that the energy consumption in highland in 2005. as can be seen the total energy consmption was 170 million tons. Nuclear and Hydroelectric made up the largest amount of this figure. This was followed by the consumption of Petroleum. Coal made up the smallest amount of energy consumption.
_ Ask ss to compare the amount of energy consumption in the two years 2000 and 2005.
_ Check ss’ mistakes.
_ Rewrite the writing on notebook at home.
_ Prepare for next lesson.

PRESENTATION:
à Relative clause replaced by participles and to-infinitives.
* Active participles:
_ Give some examples on the board.
+ The girl who is playing with the dog is Lan’s sister.
à The girl playing with the dog is Lan’s sister.
+ The man who spoke to John is my brother.
à The man speaking to john is my brother.
Notice:
“We can use a present participle to replace a relative clause which has an active meaning.”
* Past Participles:
Ex: 
+ The picture which was drawn by a blind man has won the first prize.
à The picture drawn by a blind man has won the first prize.
Notice:
“We can use a past participle to replace a relative clause which has the passive meaning.”
* Informative Relative Clause.
+ Yuri Gagain was the first man who flew into the space.
à Yuri Gagain was the first man to fly into the space.
Notice:
“ We can use a to-infinitive to replace a relative clause in the case of using after ordinal numbers
( first, second, ) or after ( next, last , after, only) or after superlative adjectives. 
PRACTICE:
Exercise 1:
_ Ask ss to rewrite the sentences in exercise 1, using the present participle phrase.
_ Go around the class to give some helps.
_ Check ss’ answers and give corrections.
