 - Guides Ss to know about the population in Viet Nam exactly.

 - Develop such reading micro-skill as scanning for special ideas and skimming for general information.

 - Use the information they have read to discuss and practice the tasks.

 * Lexical items: Words or phrases to related reading.

 * Skills: Reading for gist and for specific information.

III. TEACHING AIDS: Cassette, tape, textbook, lesson plan.

I. OBJECTIVES
 Aims: Educate Ss to appropriate about the population in Vietnam and on the world. 
 - Guides Ss to know about the population in Viet Nam exactly.

 - Use the information they have read to discuss and practice the tasks.
 * Lexical items: Words or phrases to related reading.
 * Skills: Reading for gist and for specific information.

Warm-up
- Asks Ss to answer some questions:
1. Where can you find these scenes?
2. What does each of the pictures tell you?
3. Do you think that the larger in population a country is, the stronger it is ? Why/ Why not?
- Calls some Ss to answer.
- Gives correct answers.
* Introduce the new lesson: Today, we are going to read a paragraph talk about the population on the world.
- Listen and answer.
- Answer freely. 
- Listen.
Before you read
- Gives some new words and explains the meaning on the board.

- Asks Ss to read after the teacher some times.

While you read
Setting the scene: You are going to read a passage about the population on the world and then do the tasks in the textbook.
Task 1:
* Introduce: The words in the box all appear in the passage. Fill each blank with a suitable word. (Change the form of the word and use the dictionary when necessary.)
- Guides Ss to make some strategies in task.
- Asks Ss to read the sentences carefully to understand them.
- Read/Plays cassette and ask Ss to listen once time or twice times.
- Asks Ss to work individual and discuss the following groups.
- Walks around the class to help when necessary.
- Asks them to compare their answers with friends 
- Calls Some Ss to read aloud their answers. 
- Gives corrected answer.

understand them.
- Read scan the text again and underline the key words to decide what information they need to find in the text to answer the questions.

- Read aloud the answer in front of the class.

1. The population of the world in 10,000 BC was 10 million, in 1750 it was 625 million, in 1850 was 1,300 million, in 1950 it was 2,510 million, in 1985 it was 4,760 million, in 2000 it was 6,6billion.
2. By the year 2010, the population of the world is expected to be 7 billion.
3. Some scientists say it can, but others say it can’t.
4. No, they don’t.
5. They can’t limit the size of their family because they know of no safe way to have fewer children.

Introduce: Work in pairs. Discuss with a partner and find out five world largest countries in population. Say where they are and which is the richest and which is the poorest country.
