 CLEFT sentences in the passive.

- Use these structures to solve communicative tasks.

I. Aims: 
- Distinguish the clusters / ts / - / dz / - / t∫ t / and / dʒd / 
- Pronounce the words and sentences containing these clusters correctly.
- Use grammar

* Introduce the new lesson: 
Pronunciation : / ts / - / dz / - / t∫ t / and / dʒd /
Grammar: both.and, not only .. but also, either . or , neither .. nor
cleft sentences in the passive
- Copy down.
- Listen and prepare.
Pronunciation: 
- Introduce the sounds / ts / - / dz / - / t∫ t / and / dʒd / then asks Ss to repeat them. 
* Listen and repeat.
- Guides and read example once or twine .
- Explains how to produce them.
E.g: When producing / ts /, Ss should produce / t / first and then quickly switch to / s /, and so on.
- Turns on the tape ( or read) and ask Ss to repeat.
- Asks Ss to practice the words have the sounds in each column out loud in chorus for a few more times.
- Call some Ss to read the sounds and words in front of the class.
- Listen and correct.
* Practice reading aloud these sentences.
- Read the sentences once time and ask Ss to practice them.
- Asks Ss to underline the words containing the target sounds / ts / - / dz / - / t∫ t / and / dʒd /
- Walks around to listen and takes notes of the typical error.
- Calls Some Ss to read the sentences again and provide correct feedback.
- Listen and read in chorus.
- Listen and practice the words have the sounds
- Listen and read silently.
- Underline the words containing the target sounds.
- Practice the sentences in front of the class.
Grammar: 
CLEFT sentences in the passive
- Explains Ss how to use:
Structures: It + be + subject + that + past participle.
Example:
Active: My father gave me a lot of toys.
Passive: It was I that was given a lot of toys.
Active: He described his home town in his novel.
Passive: .
Both.and, not only .. but also, either  or , neither .. nor
1) Both.and
a) Both + noun + and + noun
Example: She plays both tennis and badminton.
b) Both + verb + and + verb
Example: He both sings and dances.
c) Both + adj + and + adj 
Example: She is both beautiful and intelligent
d) Both + adverbial phrase + and + adverbial phrase.
Example: We go to school both in the morning and in the afternoon.
2) Not only .. but also
Example: 
There are problems not only with teachers but also with students themselves.
Either  or
Example: 
Well, I think she’s either Russian or Chinese
3) Neither .. nor
Example: 
I am neither rich nor poor.

Active: My husband waters the flowers every day.
Passive: It is the flowers that are watered by my husband every day.
Active: They celebrated their wedding last week.
Passive: It was their wedding that was celebrated last week.

Exercise 1:
*Introduce: 
- Asks Ss to combine the sentences using both and either ..or, neither  nor.
- Gives Ss some new words and write them on the board then explain the meaning.
- Guides Ss to make some strategies.
- Asks Ss to read carefully sentences.
- Asks Ss to work individually and then discuss the following pairs.
Example:
Tom was late. So was Ann.
- Both Tom and Ann was late.
She didn’t write and she didn’t phone.
She neither wrote nor she phoned
- Walks around the class to help when necessary.
- Suggested answer.
- Asks Ss to compare their answer with friends.
- Calls on Ss to answer and practice the sentences in front of the class.
- Corrected answer.
Exercise 1:
- Combine the sentences using both and either ..or, neither  nor.
- Copy down the notebook
- Read carefully sentences.
- Work individually and then discuss the following pairs.
- Compare the answer with friends.
- Write the correct answers on the board.
1) Both Jim and Carol are on holiday.
2) George neither smokes nor drinks.
3) Nether Jim nor Carol has got a car.
4) The film was both long and boring.
5) That man’s name is either Richard or Robert.
6) I’ve got neither the time nor the money to go on holiday.
7) We can leave either today or tomorrow.
8) Helen lost both her passport and her wallet at the airport.
9) They are both clean and easy to park.
10) I either go to the cinema or stay home and watch TV.
- Practice the sentences in front of the class.
Exercise 2:
*Introduce: 
- Asks Ss to change the sentences into cleft sentences in the passive .
- Gives Ss some new words and write them on the board then explain the meaning.
- Guides Ss to make some strategies
- Asks Ss to read carefully sentence and word phrases.
Example.
The boy hit the dog in the garden.
It was the dog that was hit in the garden.
- Asks Ss to look at the sentence example and work individually and then discuss the following pairs.
- Walks around the class to help when necessary.
- Suggested answer.
- Asks Ss to compare their answer with friends.
- Calls on Ss to answer and practice the sentences in front of the class.
- Corrected answer.

- Listen
- Change the sentences into cleft sentences in the passive .
- Copy down the notebook
- Read carefully sentences.
- Look at the sentence example and work individually and then discuss the following pairs.
- Compare the answer with friends.
- Write the correct answers on the board.
1) It was Christmas who was given a lot of flowers by fan.
2) It was the politician who was asked for direction to the post office.
3) It was his house that was talked about.
4) It was a bicycle that was bought for him on his birthday.
5) It was his hometown that was described in his novel.
6) It was the children who were frightened.
7) It was her glasses that were broken
8) It was my younger sister who was kissed at the party by the Prince.
9) It was this storybook that was given to me for a birthday present by my father.
10) It is Tet that is celebrated as the grandest occasion in a year by the Vietnamese
- Practice the sentences in front of the class.

- Asks Ss to review:
